Sony for one makes a new MD format Hi-MD which can do 1GB on the disk, is compatible with older MD formats, suppors 100X USB transfer from a PC and the best part.. you can store it's media and replace the motor unit if it ever breaks. I for one am not buying an iPod anymore as I would really like to be able to store disks with sets of songs. Also not having a DRM mechanism like the iPod makes it useful for distributing media to people.

While Gentoo does have some nice defaults, it's pretty wack as far as a distribution. Ever been on a *nix without telnet! wow! and infding packages in their portage.. woo-hoo. I would rather build from source then use their stupid, inept package management system. There are good package managers out there though, Apt, & Ports are both very mature and have full management capabilities including forward and reverse dependancies.
The idea that apple is going after an advocate site really irkes me. The people who buy their products and are willing to shell out dollar after dollar for apple gear read these sites fanaticly.
It is a really bad move for apple to squash the people who would stick with it after all the adversity they have had just trying to be 'loyal'.
First the clones, then the OS, now their users.. Damn apple is lik that kid who never wanted to share their toys as a kid.. Now that kid has no friends.. how far is apple going to go?
The act of building from previous elements proves it is evolutionary, not revolutionary. Revolutionary acts in vomputing were handwriting and voice recognition, and the oroginal idea of a database. Focusing ont eh article, the author seems to feel that the net is organic, living and without caretakers. Sure nobody WANTS to be near a computer 24/7 but then agian Iron workers probably do not want to spend all day welding. We do things becase the end result is greater than the minute tasks involved.
