All belief systems are not equal, as you seem to imply. Here's mine in a nutshell, which I consider to be essentially American (although not exclusively) and superior to all other belief systems: Individual freedom and responsibility good, everything else, bad. That is for me and IMO should be for everyone (American or otherwise) the Prime F'n Directive. If you buy into that, I trust you even if you have other ideas I think are stupid. If you don't buy into that, I think you have bad software running in your head (probably fueled by "good intentions"), and I don't want you making decisions for me, or to have any power whatsoever.
The reasons why this "BS" is superior to other "BS"s are many, but here are a couple of highlights:
1. Produces best outcomes - smart, motivated, empowered individuals create wealth and drive progress better than Ministries of Fuckery.
2. Prevents tyranny - there is no path to tyrannical Ministries of Fuckery if this "BS" truly prevails.
That's my religion at a political/economic/social level, and if I could "force it" on you, I would. And fuck you if you can't take a joke.
A myth is not a false fact, it is a metaphor - a metaphor open to transcendence, to use Joseph Campbell's definition. A true myth is truer than a true fact, because it explains that which goes beyond the facts, allows you to relate to it. If you think the Truth is not a larger notion than the facts, you should check with Godel, Heisenberg, Bohr, Einstein, etc...
No substance, just paranoid, bitter ranting, with goofy moral inversions and willful ignorance. Cuba is a PRISON - there's no free speech, free thought, free expression. But they're the GOOD GUYS, in your view.
Clearly, it is you, drinkypoo, who are coming apart at the seams. I call bullshit on YOUR idealogy.
Bad idea to mod an existing game. Better to use Unity or Torque, Blender for modelling and animation. You don't need monsters and puzzles, you need CONTENT. I have no karma, so I'll link to my own game dev blog. Give me 250k, I could build an immersive 3D multiplayer shakespeare world that plays right in your browser. Academics are rightly intrigued by the possibilities of virtual worlds, but need to realize that it's much harder to develop that kind of content. No surprise that this guy couldn't do it, but it CAN be done by skilled individuals rather than armies of specialists.
I know Mike Godwin from school (UTexas) and last year, after drunken reunion party of sorts, talked turned to Iraq. Discussion grew heated, and someone at the table called me Nazi (from which you may infer my opinion and/or drunkenness). Mike Godwin, sitting next to me, said "Hello?!? I'm right here! You can't violate my law in my presence!" and declared me the winner. But I don't think he meant it - he thought I was a Nazi too, but couldn't bring himself call me one. I think he settled for "warmonger". But he's a very nice guy.
It is global, but it ain't a conspiracy, it's right out in the open, and the GP is right - the IPCC and the UN in general is motivated not by climate science, which is utter horseshit (where's the 4 billion yr old control experiment? Why are ALL the planets getting hotter? They can't predict the whether next week, but know for certain to fractions of a degree the temp 100 years? When the can't explain either the glaciation cycle or little ice ages?) but by skimming big $$$ from the evil Americans.
And you have the gall to complain about mod points HERE? All that's necessary to get modded up here: Bush sucks, America sucks, Eminent Doom, blah blah blah = +5 Insightful!
He's the troll, and you're are insightful? Gimme a fucking break. YOU are the troll: everything sucks, the sky is falling, no hope for anyone, nothing's good enough. You sound like what you are, a spoiled, whining baby. The parent is right: a smart, motivated person in America can achieve success beyond their dreams. Stupid lazy assholes that compulsively blame others for their problems, like you, maybe not.
Oooh, the wittle baby feels so alienated....give it a wollypop. Look, it's pissing all over itself, it's so mad!
It's SLANDER to question your position? "Of course" you "ignore the complexities"? "No way" to explain this except your opinion? And even if it's not our fault, it's still our fault?
Face it, you are a religious zealot. Blind, reflexive faith in these computer models (which can't even explain the 100k year glaciation cycles, or little ice ages) is pathetic, as is your willful denial when other explanations are put forth. Highly unconvincing.
News flash: the Earth is going to get either hotter or colder, as it has done in cycles for eons. I'm not buying this new Original Sin doctrine from you or your friends at realclimate.org any more than I did from Jimmy Swaggert.
I didn't say I was more patriotic than you. I just rejected your statement that merely "protesting policy is the highest form of patriotism". You make my point for me, suggesting your service does make you more patriotic. Which is it? By your logic, if I just complained about things enough, I'd be a patriot? I do not kid myself that that would be true. But you, who should know better, do.
It's the utmost of patriotism to protest the policies of the government. Spoken like a whining complainer who wants credit for whining and complaining. As if your rights came to you just because you cried loud enough. You have the right to complain because others (hint: utmost patriots) do their DUTIES to secure them. No other reason. Not nature, not God, not journalists or bloggers or protesters. Only people with guns willing to put themselves between you and harm.
Perhaps, if you (like me) are too selfish to be like these true patriots - soldiers, cops, firemen, etc.. - and put our lives on the line for the sake of others, perhaps our patriot duty, when we have nothing helpful to say, is not to continually carp and complain, but rather to STFU.
Farting in the wind here, no doubt, but here goes: yes, Communism Is Evil, and Capitalism is Good. Communism removes individual freedom and incentives, and so can only operate based on tyranny. Capitalism requires individual freedom and provides incentives to achieve. More importantly, the market provides a context in which individual and group competition can occur that is mutually beneficial, rather than destructive - it allows for non-zero-sumness, which makes all the difference. Now, you may say that competition is itself a wasteful thing that humanity should outgrow, in our grand march of Progress. But that would be you whitewashing the world with soft good intentions. The best we can hope for out of most people is that they act out of rational self-interest. That is not spin, child, it is reality.
Sadly, many voters have the attitude: what is the government going to do for me? How much free shit can I score? Most people will act out of rational self-interest, and when you can get some free shit, it's only rational to line up and get some.
Others vote for impossibilities: I want universal peace and love and understanding! I want free health care! Blah, blah. You may be "informed" but still attached to a naive, incorrect worldview. You can be "informed" and still be an idiot. When people insist on the impossible, what they get is the disastrous.
So OK, let's make sure everybody votes, no matter how stupid, lazy, naive, self-centered or alive they are. But folks in the military should get to vote twice.

Yep, the whole place is full of monsters now! Here's a sim: http://snakewater.com/deepones.html
