Machine Intelligence?
I too was surprised that no one in the Slashdot crowd has mentioned the possibility of this being a Machine Intelligence world. SciFi writers have speculated that diamond structures/networks would be the most efficient environment for computing. When MIs emerge (I don’t like the term AI – if it is intelligent there is nothing artificial about it), the ultimate ecosystem would be a diamond planet.
