Most Linux projects are either made by FOSS hobbyists, or by big-name corporations, neither of those groups want to be tied into a distribution system owned by Red Hat.
I don't know if this counts... but the year 2038 problem is coming up in another 28 years.
Something tells me that the public will be less riled up about this one. I don't foresee a rise in cult membership or survivalist magazine sales.

Maybe they should be paying for Google apps enterprise: it's only $50 per year per user.
