No, if you look at child pornography you should be arrested. Child pornography is not a free speech issue...it's is a child abuse issue. Watching child pornography is infringing on the rights of the innocent children who are being photographed/recorded/worse.
The reason why is because this book and the short story which was the basis for Total Recall examine what it is to be human, and both in particular look at the ideas of memories and how they define us. If it was as simple as getting a blood test it would be a much more boring book!:)
Agreed..2001 should be ahead of blade runner. While blade runner is a great geek fest, and has some great visuals, it has alot of problems (some solved with the directors cut). The earth is supposedly polluted etc (eg. a living owl is a ridiculous notion) and everyone is splitting 'off world', yet the roads are teeming with people, and still that guy from the newhart show still manages to have an entire apartment complex to himself.
The book is much better (isn't it always, but particularly with sci-fi it seems), but a bit too depressing for a movie.

I wonder if theater owners are prepared for the hardware upgrades required to show the movie!
That comment can be applied to all top of the line electronics...whether it's a toaster or a television or a video card or the latest offerings from AMD or Intel. Top of the line is rarely (never?) the best choice economically. When you include the drool/bragging rights factor, the decision is less clear.

Hewlitt Packard has already offplaneted some of it's manufacturing to Martian workers, who get paid only a few space cents a month.
"There are no jobs that are Earthlings God-given rights anymore" the CEO was quoted as saying.
Well maybe I'm just the kind of guy who says 'The cup is half full of terrorists!'
Just because something can be done doesn't mean something should be done.
