  1. Nothing beats oyster crackers! on On Usage of "Hacker vs. Cracker" · · Score: 1
It really bothered me when the DoS attacks were happening they were blaming it on Hackers. At least this proves that some reporters in the news media actually do research before spouting a story. But, the delay in this report shows that the truth only comes on slow news weeks.

I still think that they use the definitions wrong, hackers i agree with, but crackers should be left to burlgers to crack safes. Leave crackers a sa term for the 40's, the data safes of the 90's were best broken by hackers.
Plus it ties nicely into the cliche for a hacker.

    A pale, underexercised
computer nerd who, when not writing
    code spends his time playing
AD&D, hacking both at imaginary creatures and
    real computers.

Too bad most cliches and stereotypes are no longer valid. just about anybody today is a hacker to some extent, weather directly or indirectly.
if you disagree, think abount it the next time you play an MP3, watch a movie with DeCSS, or run that nifty program you got for "Free." (Don't deny it, almost everybody who owns a computer has pirated some peice of software from a relative.)
  2. Re:This is *not* good at all on Microsoft Break-Up To Be Proposed? · · Score: 1

    I agree
A break up would ultimatly cause problems, and only benifit the stock holders, and other who currently make money off of M$. What I beleive would benefit the community the most is to have M$ release ALL of the source for NT4, Win98 and previous windows versions, so the competition can examine it and provide adiquate emulation. Also they should be forced to do the same for IE and be required to release FULL API's and file formats for any other software of thiers, this would ensure fair competition. Plus it would greatly help projects like WINE.
Most ./'s may hat and flame M$, but they did make PC's what they are and you have to admin that did "innovate" some good ideas for web browsers.
Dynamic HTML in Netscape sux big!

But this is just my .9 cents (not including local and state taxes)

  3. Good old 80's are back... WTF? on AMD Announces "Duron" Processor · · Score: 2

Why has the computer industry returned to a Ghz verison of the 80's?
Sure the technology is better, but everything is becoming more and more proprietary hardware! Doesnt anybody remeber the goold old Pentium days, where you could buy a S7 motherboard, and then decide on a P5, Cyrix, Amd, or whatever the hell else you wanted for a processor.
If one sucked, you could go by the other and plug it in, or if a better one came out you could by that. Now if you want cheap performance, you can buy a S370 and get a celeron, but if you want to upgrade you would have to buy a new motherboard. I mean come on at least the non-propritary software advocates should complain about this.
I say open-source the hardware and go back to the good-ole days of mix'n and match'n! I say not only is Intel at fault but AMD as well. What about IBM ,what type of motherboard will you have to buy? Why dont we just all go back to SPARCs and APLHAs fo as similar as the chips are getting now. I say Phah! on the whole industry!

  4. Re:No prob. There's still eth MAC ID, Modem serial on Intel To Drop CPU ID Number · · Score: 1

Why are people so freaked about the CPU ID, yet not worried about: (1) The unique MAC address on their ethernet card. No need to worry about a MAC ID, they are about as uniqe as a first and last name. sure in some areas there might only be one, but the larger the area the more the chance of duplicates. I ordered 3 Nic form a company and two of them had the same MAC address!
