ID newer made any money on any of their linux ports.
Oh, really? Anything to back that up? Given that very few of their products shipped the Linux port as a separate retail unit, I'm betting even they don't have this data.
Yes, it is Zenimax that killed the linux port, not any of the reason that he lists or anything...
Yup. The things he lists stink of being a bullshit cover-story. None of the things he lists were an issue for any Id product in the past, but they suddenly are now, when the state of 3D drivers in Linux is better than it ever has been? Sorry. Not buying it.
The camera is the only bit that is unique, and probably not more expensive than rechargeable batteries and fully analog buttons for every single button
What's your point? Is the post I replied to suddenly correct now that you've brought up something unrelated?
I'm not sure I even buy it being the most complex anyway. Sure, it's got an IR sensor on it, but it doesn't have any analog buttons (only one control stick, and only if you're using the Nunchuck), it has fewer total buttons, it doesn't have any charging capabilities, it only has a single vibrating motor...
Anyway, the point was that the original poster asserted that the non-Wii controllers were more expensive, and they're clearly less expensive.
This is slashdot. When a company does something wrong you're supposed to trash them in every story about them forever or until the corporate death penalty is applied.
Oh, wait. That only applies to Sony. Microsoft gets a pass.
I read something interesting about the new Nissan GTR - the reviewer's only criticism was that the automatic rev matching was too good and made his double-clutch shifting obsolete.
There are all sorts of idiots that review cars for a living. I was reading a review of a new Porsche the other day, and the reviewer was complaining that it was too reliable. He didn't have to be careful how he was driving it, and he never had to worry that he might not make it on a long trip like he used to in his '70s Porsche. He said it made it feel like the car was doing all the work, and he didn't have to "really drive it" anymore. What a self-important idiot....
No doubt they *can* make it stop working on my existing PS3 if I choose to install their update. But it doesn't say anywhere that they are planning to remove it. I highly doubt they are, since the cost of maintenance on leaving it there is zero.
Sony abandoning Linux on new skus means they are effectively doing the same for the old ones.
Explain.
To me it says "we used slightly different controllers and peripherals, and don't feel like investing the time to port the drivers and such to a new linux kit".
I didn't see the bit where they said they were making it stop working on my existing device.
I canceled my Comcast service ages ago (I was tired of my internet and cable not working when it rained). I had a cable modem from them, and I was supposed to bring it back to their office to get my $90 deposit refunded. But the office is a 40 minute drive away in a direction I never go, so I just kept putting it off.... Now two years have passed, and that $90 deposit that I was supposed to get back has turned into them claiming that I owe them $90. And they have my SSN./sigh
Clinton was the head of the Democratic party, and had immense power over party policy. Additionally, his party had control of congress and the presidency. Additionally, the law is merely congressional ratification of a WIPO treaty agreed to by the Clinton administration.
I'm not sure how this is "insightful". Because we're spending a ridiculously huge amount of money, we can waste a ridiculously huge (but relatively small) amount of money?
Startup companies that develop web applications run for 4+ years on $18mil with 30+ developers and a sales and management team. And they turn out products orders of magnitude more complex than this tracking website. I wish I knew about the bid. I could have undercut these guys by about $14 mil, pulled a team together in about a week, gotten the job done quick and retired in style.
Stupid in your opinion. But then you obviously haven't had any problem getting healthcare, else I'm sure your opinion would be different. "Socialised" medicine hasn't ruined the [...]
Way to ignore my point and start arguing about something completely different.
In case you were wondering, and are too lazy to go re-read my comment, my point was that congress has lots of jobs, and they shouldn't be able to ignore most of them so that they can showboat on the politically popular ones.

It's unfortunate that you made the subject of the comment what you did... Because you're likely to get modded as a Troll even though you speak the truth.
It seems to me that the right course is to encourage these people to become full citizens (instead of making it almost impossible like it is now).
Many of them want to, and are trying very hard. They're already educated and require little to no investment from us, and our country gets a skilled/educated worker that is willing to pay full taxes, work hard, and contribute to our society.
If you have a college education, we should want to make you a citizen. Quickly and easily.
Congress' job is to legislate, not to play politics. And not just legislate on one issue. They are supposed to represent the needs of the country, not put on a show to win them as many possible votes and campaign dollars as possible.
Lets not create the false dichotomy of having to choose between fixing health care, and fixing one industry pushing a company in another industry out of business using an unintended effect of some broken legislation. They can fix both. (Though I have my doubts that they know how to fix health care. And even bigger doubts that they would do the right thing instead of playing politics with the issue even if they knew the right way to fix it..)

I'm calling bullshit.
Wiimote + Nunchuk = $53 ($38 for Wiimote alone)
Dualshock 3 = $43 (Includes rechargeable batteries)
Xbox 360 Wireless controller = $28
The Wii has - by far - the most expensive controllers of the current set of consoles.
Who says it's a smooth curve?
There will likely be many peaks in annual data.
Bad math is bad.
At the very least, he could buy a new house near somewhere that has 100mbps connections.
Oh really?
*h n, 've lst ll my vwls!
<Cough>
I may be going out on a limb here, but... Maybe when they added the feature in the first place?
Sorry. I guess I messed up your rhetorical trolling.

Um, no. It never updates the firmware without you knowing about it.
Though some new games do require that you update the firmware.
What self-respecting driver that cares about performance buys a car with an automatic transmission?

My current plan is to wait until they've blown at least $90 mailing me bills, and monitoring my credit rating.
Be glad you pulled it off.

No. We can't. Because it's accurate.
