Now, you know as well as I do that you can't eject the CD unless you unmount the filesystem first. This strikes me as being perfectly reasonable (although, I concede, a tad inconvenient at times).

stdio and stdlib _are_ really libraries. Just because the standard requires them doesn't imply that they are part of the language. They aren't. They're libraries, and you're quite at liberty to replace them with your own libraries that do the same sorts of things. Btw, I've been programming in C for about 15 years.

12 quid a slab isn't bad - we pay about $A25, which is probably much the same (I forget what the Pom-to Oz exchange rate is, but I thinks it's a bit south of 1 for 2) but that's for shit like Fosters or VB. Decent beer is a fair bit more - over $A30 for Cooper's iirc.

Australians tend to start ANZAC Day (our most important religious holiday) with a "gunfire breakfast" (coffee and rum) - they gave it to the lads at Gallipoli before they went over the top. It tastes pretty good (if it's decent rum). The beer and coffee concoction otoh couldn't possibly taste much worse than normal American beer, so I guess no-one will notice the difference.

Speaking from experience, playing in front of an appreciative audience is the most fun you can have with your pants on, and if you get money (or free beer) as well, it's a bonus. That's exactly how we do things in Australia. Combined with compulsory voting, preferential voting gives us an extremely robust, not particularly corrupt, democracy. Despite recent changes, Australia is still an earthly paradise.

I'm currently running Red Hat (not the latest, but only a couple of years old) on a 120MHz (I think) with about 78MB of RAM at home, and while it's slow, it is almost usable and suprisingly stable. I wouldn't consider running even NT4 on it. (Assuming I had a copy. Which I wouldn't.)
