His report of 300-900Kbps was a biased test because it included sending data over the internet via other networks.
At my office we use OC-12 connections and I can only show about 1 Mb/s up/down from dslreports.com, most downloads I get are about 1 - 1.5 Mb/s, some are slower. It all depends on where you are TX/RX from and how good the network is in between. I ping 50 to LAX, but ping 30 to UK servers... go figure.
We always test speed from the ISP to our network before the link goes live, but beyond that I dont think we get any speed guarantee other than the first hop of the ISP network. Because who knows what network/scriptkiddy/pr0n p2p node is taking the bandwidth of that route any time.
There were what? 70 something satellites. So are those odds 1:250 for each one, or the entire batch? If they are for each one, then thats not good... I guess the DoD really did buy it to protect us. =oP
You know, IANAL, but with gnutella you have some defence, as you dont profit(in currency) from your transaction. Its just sharing. Using this method, you make a "sale"..
ssh (login)@(yourmacbox)
;)
sudo softwareupdate
Of course, this only works if you have access to it from the outside
I have also seen this on RedHat 5.x, when the passwd file is broken. Funny the same error is the same on so many OS's.
