I'm facing the same problem with my MacBook and tried every recipe available to keep it working (send my MacBook for a 2 or 3 weeks vacation at Apple is not an option right now) and the one that worked for me was to unplug every USB 1.1 device (in my case a mouse and a keyboard connected to an USB hub) and restart the computer.
I know, it sucks, uptime is now comparable the ones we got with a win9x box, but, at least, it's working.
Just to mention, there are a lot of us, brazilians, who could not see a life with less than 30 -- or more -- hours online dayly;-)
Brazil has a huge "cliff" between social classes so as I take it for granted to have broadband at home, at my office and wifi connections at coffee shops, there are people who never touched a computer -- other than atm's or voring machines...
... that at the last 15 minutes of the last episode B & B jsut stand up on the bridge and tell us what the fuck they did about the continuity on the ST Universe (Or how they plan to launch on DVD a "producer's cut" of all other ST series (and movies) fixing the whole storyline).
What the hell! They won't do that, Paramount will just offer them to Lucas to "save" Star Wars;-)

Ok, I agree with your point of view.
But, if I don't know my door is open and someone sneaks into my room, "lease" my Half-Life, copy it and then put it back?
