Responsive design is a fairly general design philosophy not a display stack. If you resize the Slashdot classic window the columns still respond to your browser width which is an implementation of responsive design.
It's been around for a long time and it used to be done with div tags for years before some CSS libraries made it easier to do more advanced things like hide or swap page elements at different widths, etc.. Twitter Bootstrap is the most commonly used front-end method anyway (or was not long ago) which was far from being the creation of one guy.
Responsive has nothing to do with your page performance or the annoying CSS animations used to roll in ads, etc. Those are all design choices separate from any responsive framework. The other main option is a mobile site with device detection redirection which is way more spotty of a user experience than responsive.
I don't disagree with what you don't like about your internet experience but blaming responsive design doesn't make any sense. It's like blaming cubism for ruining your trip to the museum by causing all that traffic on the way there.
The real travesty has been the constant hijacking of threads with redesign whine. If I had hit the mod point lottery in the past few days the off-topic button would have broken. As someone who gave testing the new design some effort (in a helpful community member beta-test sort of way) I noticed right-away the ability to switch to classic (which they didn't have to do).

The Kinect can easily be used for NUI input. As can many other technologies that don't require actually touching anything - hence gorilla arms are just a small piece of the interaction picture.

I work with their machines quite a lot and the magic is mostly in the hardware as I understand it. They do play their cards close to their chest though so one can never be sure.

I have a Kinect interacting with Resolume 3 right next to me at the moment that I'm testing. My biggest issue at the moment is actually TUIOKinect being an asshole...everything else works great.
