  1. Re:Careful about targeting one source... on Our New Pearl Harbor · · Score: 1

Actually, in many churches (mostly those that are not Catholic), the Christian society is QUITE democratic, as deacons, elders, commitee members, etc are elected by the church as a whole or through some means of representation. Also, pastors are often approved by churches by a vote of a simple majority, the simplest form of democracy I can think of.

  3. Re:China on Chinese Government Perplexed By Internet Cafes · · Score: 1

Well firstly, I'm not curious at all as to why the Chinese government would liken video games to heroin. You see, there was this fellow once who likened religion to opium. His name escapes me, but I think his ideas were fairly instrumental in Communist thinking...
While I am being a smartass here, there is a kind of point to it. Have you ever seen a die-hard Counterstrike (Diablo 2, Everquest, insert popular game here) fan? They're quite "religious" about it. Perhaps that's what they're talking about, that it distracts them from their duties to the state and focuses on a world that's not real, and also offers them a sort of escape from the real world. Sorta like most religions do. Or in another sense, perhaps the higherups think that video games that encourage independant thought or teamwork are dangerous to the state. Or hell, maybe they think that FPSes are traning the younger generation to fight better than their armies can.

Not that I'm an MS supporter, but the X-Box kicks the shit out of Nintendo's Cube. The processor is twice as fast, it has more RAM, it has an 8GB hard drive (the cube has none), and do we really need to argue nVida versus ATI?

Apparently you didn't read the post before replying. He was talking about the impact on consumers, not OSS fans. If consumers see that free(beer) software is good, then quite naturally free(speech) software can be just as good. It might not happen overnight, especially if MS keeps playing down IE security holes, but if the current trend continues, consumers might actually have some sort of realization about the impact of free software. Not that it's likely, but we can hope.

Too bad it's a lame joke. A site that Stileproject links to, Something Awful, was "h4x0r3d" by a JeffK on April 1st. The only problem is that Jeff K was made up by the creator of Something Awful. Take this with the same grain of salt that you used with the Josef scandal earlier this year. Or the time when Stile hung himself. That's right, Stile likes to make fun of you dumbasses.

My modem supports call waiting, and it's Linux compatible!! Actiontec makes a PCI and USB V.90 Call Waiting modem. The call waiting doesn't work all the time, but it's better than a crappy Winmodem. Unfortunately, if you talk on the phone for more than a few seconds you get disconnected from your ISP, but you get your phone calls. I'm happy with it myself.

I don't know if it's been touched upon yet, but you made an interesting point there... Why would OS X make inroads to being a server OS? If the core is based on BSD, why would people change from BSD (or any other *nix) to OS X, when it's merely a poor imitation of *nix?
