There are many people working on the kernel, but some are more known then others because they do more or are more visble. Alan Cox scores well on both points and has been the maintainer of the 2.2 series upto now.
Yes, very cool indeed. They created a whole slew of jobs in a country which needs it. That's not why they did it ofcourse. It's just because those people are willing to work for less. Fair competition i'd say...
I fully agree with this, splitting this up in groups is absolutely key to make this work correctly. I wouldn't want one big sueable/corruptable entity holding this.
...especially if the token system could follow individual tracks as well as whole cds.
I don't think this is possible because the ownership is for the CD.
The programs you link to seem to work on source code , not on binaries. That's a major difference. With this new tool you can (theoretically anyway) check for security problems in programs that you don't have the source for.
Hmmm. Let's see how "unbreakable" this oracle thing really is.
This is slightly different because i can't seem to think of a way to steal a mercedes without someone actually losing a mercedes in the process.
It's a different kind of theft (so not really theft then) when noone actually is missing something after the fact.
Suppose i could clone your mercedes, you would still have yours and i would have an identical one too. Now if that is an alternative for buying a mercedes i'm hurting the Daimler/Crysler company but if i had no intention to buy one in the first place it's not a loss to anyone (except the environment in this specific case).
SCOsource is a new business division to manage its UNIX® System intellectual property. The charter of the new division is to create new and innovative licensing programs to meet the changing demands of today's market and to protect its intellectual property asset.
SCO is the owner of the UNIX Operating System Intellectual Property that dates all the way back 1969, when the UNIX System was created at Bell Laboratories. Through a series of mergers and acquisitions, SCO has acquired ownership of the patents, copyrights and core technology associated with the UNIX System. The SCO source division will continue to offer traditional UNIX System licenses to preserve, protect and enhance shareholder value.
So they do make these claims. Let's see how long it stays up like this.
Exactly how many trust do you have in technology. I love the idea but if some circuitry failed i'd like it to be returned to normal see-trough glass automatically.
You don't wanna see your binary-only nvidia driver blow up on you when driving (or X for that matter).

The software page talks about vmware and win98 being installed for the GPS/Street Atlas software. On the screen shot they might have taken the windows view, although it seems to be running just a bit more then GPS software there.
Is there no good Linux GPS/Atlas stuff out there? Maybe someone should give them a pointer to it.
While I was reading this story (great writing) I felt so glad I'm living in Europe. It's getting worse here. But we hopefully won't have a fucked up system like this.
In the Netherlands (yes i live there) an individual mind is still respected (they did respect me at least).
Did they vote on the original proposal or on the amended version? That makes quite a difference in my opinion.

That's why it's a somewhat bigger deal.

I'm pretty sure Microsoft still supports windows 2000. They stopped support for Windows NT recently however.
Take a look at minion.de. They have patches for getting NVIDIA's driver going.
From post-halloween-2.5.txt:
- Older Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) support For XFree86 4.0) has been removed. Upgrade to XFree86 4.1.0 or higher.
So, you need to upgrade to Xfree 4.1.0. I even saw Alan Cox mention that he needed Xfree 4.3.0 in some i810 testing.

Why did this guy get modded down? Moderators, mod this up please...
Isn't it more likely that we'll need porting from Asian languages to English. They have programmers there as well.

You should have done it all in pdf/ps/plaintext. If a company can't deal with that you probably don't want to work for them.
I did mine in plaintext. You can achieve good formatting if you give it some time.
