Then again, maybe not. IDK about megaupload but rapidshare deliberately makes it impossible to search their servers for files. It is not indexed. This way (in theory) the only users who get access to a file are those who are given a direct link (presumably by the uploader). This is supposed to discourage filesharing.
You got there before I could, I always bring up the firearms argument because it is one that is so unique to America. Specifically, handguns. Handguns are usually banned (or at least under much more restriction) in most countries, as opposed to other firearms, because they serve next to no legal purpose. Rifles, shotguns, etc. can and are used for hunting. Nobody hunts deer with a handgun or PDW type weapon. I know, I know, I hear you say you go to the range with it. Sure, but why are you practicing using a tool that you can not actually apply? Self-defense? Maybe, it depends on the circumstance. Just like the use of MegaUpload may be illegal, depending on the circumstance. Whenever a homeowner illegally shoots a burglar running away, the government does not prosecute Colt, or Sig Sauer, or Smith&Wesson. Why is that?
I appreciate the sentiment, $deity knows I agree with you, but the point still stands. Here in the UK we now have the option of streaming with Netflix (yep, we just got it, so its not just the US anymore) or Lovefilm (frankly, its shite, and we welcome Netflix).
An excellent point. In Norway, immediately after the Breivik attacks, this was a hot issue. Few people even realised there was a right-wing extremist community in Norway because, due to very specific racism/hate speech laws, any such discussion must be hidden from the public. Hence, online forums, closed from the public, hosted in the US, are where they gather in secrecy with only likeminded people to talk to.
That would explain the english one but not the norwegian one...it seems too coincidental that they are so alike. Unless one is based on the other. BTW, giggling now at the image of a really pissed-off cat shooting out of a bag into the new house.
I'm sure they would have known, but I had a look at the crime stats for that street too (www.police.uk), and violent crime shot up after the shutdown of the street lamps. Believe it or not, a well-lit street deters crime. At least in places where I can afford to live (I am sure in suburbia USA it makes no difference. At least not with a 9mm in your handbag).
They had never heard of any violent crime happening on their own street before then. And no, shining light on criminals does not make them lawful. That would be a very childish assumption. It does, however, put them off committing crimes whilst illuminated.
Erm, it's more to do with other people seeing that you are being assaulted. If you are in the light, you can be seen. If you are not, you can be attacked without anyone else being any the wiser. I think that was the reason all this happened.
That was my comment on the BBC article (which was subsequently voted into oblivion). The street near my friend's house has had its street lighting turned off at night recently (though for energy-saving purposes, not stargazing) and within a month there were two rapes and an assault right there on the street. It is not something I would have thought of right away, but speak to any woman who has ever had to walk home at night, alone, and they will tell you they feel much safer under street lights.
In proper game stores, the cases are stored sans disc. When you bring the case to the counter, they take the disc from a locked cabinet and place it inside. This would be the safe way to ensure you do not get an empty case. Of course, this also usually carries with it a premium to pay, since the game store will no doubt charge more than Wal-Mart/ASDA would.
Thanks:) I always wondered what the cat-bag idiom came of. Now that I think about it, we have a similar saying in Norwegian, which from a quick google I can see comes from the same situation. If, upon realising what we have bought is a fraud, or fake, we say we "bought the cat in the bag". If referring to something you bought as being a con, or just generally a lot more rubbish than you were led to believe, that item is referred to as "the cat in the bag". Language is fun:)
Eclipse is good for plugins generally, and its integrated SVN is pretty good. Still, I saved myself a lot of rage when switching to Komodo and just using Tortoise SVN.
I fear this effect as well, similar to what we saw here in the UK with the Digital Economy Bill, which slipped in silently without anyone even noticing.
Also, a stab in the dark, but are you the same deacon from xsharex? I seem to remember having some good political discourse with someone under the same (or similar) username.
Many republicans are also in favour of an authoritarian government. It does not mean that SOPA = right wing, at least not directly.

I usually look at the political spectrum as left vs right (extremes being "true communism" and "true capitalism" respectively) and up vs. down (authoritarian vs libertarian). I would agree that SOPA is not left vs right, but rather Up vs Down. SOPA is strictly an authoritarian measure, giving more power to the state to control its citizens.

I was given to understand that the Civil War only became about slavery after Lincoln made it so. As a youngin it was simple; the South wanted slavery, the North wanted abolition. It was explained to me later that the war was really just about land, and the South wanting to secede(sp?) and the North not allowing it. The slavery thing only came up later, as Lincoln used it as a hot issue to rally support.
Desecration of corpses is something that is considered abhorrent across most cultures, whether for religious reasons or simply some psychological reason. Some part of the human psyche tells us it is immoral (even if, when considered logically, this is a rather insignificant act compared to that of actually killing).
Yes I have a point. It was very simple in the last post but I will restate it again. He is not from the UK. He was born in Australia, and now holds US citizenship, and his nationality is "American". These are facts, not points of opinion, no point to argue them.
Servers were based in Virginia, USA. So that might have something to do with it.
Swiss, dude. That's the best part. Neutral country ftw.

Lilith was the first woman, if we are doing mythology here. Came before Adam and Eve.

No. When I buy games at GAME I bring an empty case to the counter and they put a brand new, freshly pressed disc into the case.

If WYSIWYG is out as a requirement, I, too, would plug Komodo. I moved to that after a few frustrating months on Eclipse.
I would not really recommend Eclipse. I used it for a few months at my webdev job, and it was really buggy. Also, AFAIK, it does not have WYSIWYG.
