MMS limits the quality of the media you send quite significantly. I think GP is simply stating that there are much better way to send someone a picture or video nowadays. I would have to agree. I sent maybe 2 or 3 MMS when they first came out, realised it sucked, and went back to emailing stuff or hosting it somewhere.
With a smartphone you don't even need MMS anymore. Presumably you get email to your phone, so just send pictures and video clips as attachments in an email, and keep the good quality!
If the signal is so poor that you cannot actually receive anything of substance, you don't have to pay. When I bought a TV, the vendor notified TV Licensing that my household was getting a TV. Subsequently they sent letter after letter saying to pay up, but there was no way for me to tell them "I cannot get TV signal", so they finally sent a guy round. He just looked at the static, wrote on his clipboard and left. That was 2 years ago, haven't heard from them since.
Some very good points raised by you and GP. I wholeheartedly agree that I would actually prefer killing my own (after I got a bit better with a rifle), it seems more humane that the animal is allowed to live in the wild as it would normally, and when it is time, it is killed quickly with least amount of pain (this adds a challenge to the hunter, too, if he is indeed doing it for sport, to hit the animal in the right place to ensure near instant death and minimal suffering). I can't argue that there isn't an alternative. Yes, vegetarianism is more humane and "ethical" than eating meat at all, so at some point you have to draw the line. Also, I agree it seems strange that to many people it is OK to eat meat, but not OK to hunt, or to enjoy hunting. Where would they prefer to get their meat, then? From a self-loathing person who regrets every animal he kills and whips himself for it..?
No hunter in nature is equal to its prey. Is the bear a coward for being bigger, stronger than his prey? Is the owl a coward? Should he not use his claws and simply chase the rabbit on foot, so they are on even terms? Your argument makes no sense, the very definition of hunting in any sense is using your advantage to kill your prey.
I hear this a lot, and it confused me until I learned some people hunt animals just for the sake of killing them?? I could understand why people would have a problem with that, because I certainly do, myself. I think hunting for the purposes of using the meat/fur etc. is fine (deer/elk hunting for example, using as much of the animal as possible) or for the purposes of culling (one year there may be an excessively large population of an animal which causes a disturbance in the ecosystem). But then, most people do this because they enjoy it (they could just as easily buy the meat in a shop), so what do animal rights activist think about that?
Rifle bullets are the ones that are most dangerous, though pistol rounds can be as well. Since they are spin stabilized they can maintain a ballistic trajectory for long distances, miles even. As such they can potentially hit with lethal force even if fired at a pretty steep angle.
I've often wondered what happens to all the 7.62mm that gets fired in intimidation/celebration in Africa and the Middle East.
In fact the redneck "I shoot trespassers" is illegal
I thought you had Castle Doctrine in most of your states..?
As for here in the UK, you get thrown in jail if you don't offer the burglar a cup of tea after he tires of murdering your children.
If youre like me, then tv signal is not available (there is no aerial on the roof and even if there was I suspect it still would not pick up anything). I have a TV, but because I don't fancy getting a dish, I cannot receive any TV signals. Sadly, there is no way to submit this to the licensing people (they assume if you have a TV you must buy a licence because you are definitely watching TV). So, they sent a guy. I showed him some static, he made a note on his clipboard, and went on his way. No licence for me.
Cops in the UK don't understand the laws they are enforcing. They break the law all the time without knowing it, and spread misinformation about the law. Take the knife law, for instance. Some cops will tell you carrying any knife in public is illegal, unless you have a valid reason. The fact is, any folding knife that does not lock and has a cutting edge of under 3 inches is legal to carry by anyone, for no reason at all (so most Victorinox are perfectly legal to have in your pocket). It only becomes an offense if it is brandished or used in an unlawful manner.
I really really love the Swiss and Switzerland. My parents recently moved out there, and whenever I visit it is just such a refreshing thing to be surrounded by polite, friendly, helpful, industrious, and overall *sensible* people. Plus, most government is local, not national (ever heard the Swiss prime minister talk about Swiss policy?), so the locals get more of a say in how they want to live.
Which I think is a really dishonest business model. Before you buy a car you take it for a test drive, and read about its specs. Most big electronics retailers let you play with a product before you choose to buy it. Video games used to give you demos to try the game, but not anymore. Console games can be returned for a partial refund (a trade-in) whilst PC games are worthless once the key has been registered. I think it is perfectly reasonable to pirate the game to see if it's any good, then buy it if you like it.
Mod parent up. I don't know where Americans get this idea that everyone thinks they are the posterchild for civilization. "The American" in my mind as a child was a gun-toting redneck who liked war and killing.
I keep looking and researching and still have no answers; did/will Norway sign ACTA? There have been no mention of this country anywhere with relation to ACTA, only ever "the EU" and Switzerland when talking about Europe.
Entrapment confuses me. Isn't a female officer posing as a prostitute technically entrapment? Or is it OK so long as the john solicits her and not the other way around?
Also, story: A friend of a friend drives one of those tricked out street racing cars. Apparently, one night, an unmarked car pulled up next to him, revved the engine, and did all the things to suggest he wanted to race. As they sped off (the unmarked car clearly also accelerating harshly, to indicate participation in a race situation) the unmarked car, upon reaching a certain speed level with the other car, threw its siren/lights on. Apparently it was an undercover car, tricking people into racing him, and then arresting them. Isn't this entrapment? The friend's friend would not have driven in such a way had he not been enticed by the cop..
Rich people have their own pools in which to pee, which really removes the social empathy aspect of the situation.
I know. I should really move back, but the UK economy isn't allowing me to make enough money to make the move :(
Indeed. Unlike, say, Norway (not mentioned in TFS, idk about TFA) which uses mainly hydroelectric.
Nit-pickery, I know, but "cow-orkers" put a great image of a cow/orc hybrid in my head. Terrifying, or delightfully dull.

Not to mention the fifth, and in my case, the first...

no killing for fun or sport

Sure, but it would probably produce some kind of euphoric high.

Which is probably why Rapidshare is based there.

/etc/hosts file allows you to manually assign domain names to IPs.

Confederates and Unionists alike had slaves. Lincoln made the conflict about slavery later on.
Germany != Belgium. Derp.
lol nope, Norway is very much a pro-US and pro-Israel country (except that the government occasionally questions Israel's policies, hence Anders).

It is the same as those IT people who contract in war zones, really. High risk = high pay but no benefits or protection from a company.
