Did Oracle try to resolve this amicably with Google (by way of a license deal) or is Oracle pursuing purely destructive objectives?
Given Ellisons hatred of anything with the word "cloud" in it, i assume he wants google dead worse then ballmer.
Given how much google uses java for all sorts of stuff, they were idiots not to buy sun. With ellison at the helm of oracle/java, google might actually make a safer bet by moving all their stuff to.net... ballmer might be hell-bent on their destruction too, but contrary to oracle, microsoft has some incompetence to make up for the malevolence
Now Sun sees everyone hopping on the Android train for all sorts of devices, and no licensing fees coming in from any of them. And they're suing.
Small correction, Oracle is sueing. I personally like to think Sun was more a bunch of business/social-awkward techheads trying to stay afloat with technology, rather then the blood-sucking vampires that run Oracle's legal/licensing department.
Ellison, much like balmer has an air of megalomania about him...
i still have tremendous respect for carmack, he did that stuff before giant middleware libraries and managed code runtimes and all that malarky that developers can use these days.
No matter what 3d effects a modern game can dish out on screen with all that easy-to-use click and configure stuff, my respect for the guys who wrote the original doom, quake and unreal engines will never go away
the fact that someone with a little motivation could make a better engine should be obvious, hell, i cobled together a simple raycasting engine with texturing built in that rivals wolfenstein 3d in a few spare hours.
The source is interesting in the same way that a pioneers museum is interesting to see how people did things in the old days
i do remember the MG in Quake 4 having a flashlight, but in doom 3? not as far as i know
The scoped/flashlighted Assault riffle from Quake 4 is much more versatile then Doom's machine gun, but then again, if you are playing doom, why are you using anything but the shotgun?
Nah, the difference in acoustic propperties between the concrete of a parents basement compared to the steel walls inside doom 3's martian facility kills the entire aureal experience
The number of people with steel plating in their basement proved significantly lower then id's market researchers led them to believe
And on a serious note, a sibling suggested serious sam, which is a good one. It doesnt have the narrow passages of doom, its more open areas with massive waves comming at you, but that is probably as close as you can get, other various more simple shooters still tend to muck things up with stories and puzzles
Oh, try painkiller by the way! its a bit older (ca 2003), and the setting is somewhat different, but in terms of gameplay, it is a nice mix between serious sam and doom
Audi probably tunes this thing down a LOT. It only has to work in a ~4 foot radius anyway, and the outer shell of the car will keep most of those waves/energy inside for a few bounces, so this wont be like duct-taping a linksys router onto the ceiling of your car.
CxO#1: damn, i wish audi would get their shit together and write a driver for my A8, so i can use it with my windows 8 laptop... CxO#2: oh, you went with the USB option? My A8 has the wifi hotspot, my kids love playing with their DS through nintendo-online on long trips you know? and my laptop also works flawlessly.
Brosnan makes for a better Sean Connery stand-in for sure (in that respect i prefer him over Moore and Dalton), but Craig put forth a rather convincing young and crass bond, slightly naive in retiring from the trade at the end of casino royale, and after that, hell bent on vengeance in quantum of solace.
Craig might not be the suave british gentleman we got used to seeing as james bond, but in the context of Craig playing a younger bond (in Casino he didnt yet have 00 status), with somewhat less finesse and a sharper edge
dont they at least have to be sure a crime has been commited at all?
I for instance, can claim i just stole all the gold stored in fort Knox, and hid it in my basement, i can consistently claim i did that. It would however, be rather odd if they convict me off that crime, when a simple visual inspection of either Fort Knox, or my basement (dont have one actually), easily disproves my claim.
If however, all the gold in Fort Knox was missing, and somehow ended up in my basement, then i would agree my confession is enough to reasonably convict me.
The sad part is that sun was just a little less evil then most tech companies, Larry Ellison however, must be steve ballmers evil twin.
I just hope to god Google burries oracle six feet under, and if it all possible, rescues java from the flaming wreckage
So you cant believe php/ruby/asp exists either eh? apparently something only has a reason d' etre if it serves a purpos on your computer..

In reality, Sun sued Microsoft for one reason:
- they didnt want to end up embraced, extended, extinguished like many that went before
FTFY

well, at least they know about not doing a job so perfect that you wont be needed in the future.
Think about it, if the first design was flawless, MS could have fired them and just found new guys five years down the road for the next job..

The xbox 360 and ps3 thermal design team would like a word with you...

mod parent imformative (google ducttape + doom 3 if you dont get it)
the Mario Kart of shooting people, if you will.
You just made my day!

So this doesnt address the performance issues many ipod-touch/3g owners have been experiencing?

Yo Man X-to-the-Z X-zibit?
Well, if you spent all you money on the car, at least it'll be nice to have wifi in there when the bank forecloses on your house :P
You can park at work, sleep on the backseat, and watch porn through the in-car wifi! it saves on petrol costs too!

People with an Audi A8 are most likely to be driven around by a driver, while sitting in the back with their laptop
And having in-car wifi just is a bit more stylish then having that usb dongle hanging out of your laptop.
Not to mention the fact that the kids nintendo DS wont work with a 3G dongle, but will connect to the in-car wifi

Apparently no amount of girly drinks is enough to defeat the awesomeness that is Sean Connery
No, it is stored in chemical bonds, not in the form of matter
unless you believe you actually lose weight when falling of a building, because some of your matter is converted into kinetic energy..
sounds like a cool gamemode, i'd like to try it out
I was very impressed with the Linux version of the game. Installed and ran flawlessly in ubuntu 10.04 x86_64. Didn't even have to edit a config file :)
i will have to check this thing out just for this very reason
dont they at least have to be sure a crime has been commited at all?
