well, i have her convinced that android is better then getting a new iphone (and it didnt even take any brainwashing techniques), so dumping wont be needed:)
(kidding, off course.. when we got together she had a windows mobile phone, and had just bought a laptop with vista... i honestly dont care too much)
yes, because sony is the yardstick of corporate morallity, with no reputation for being underhanded bastards at all..
Honestly, both companies are evil and suck, but IMHO sony is way ahead of MS. requiring the removal on functionality you originally bought with the machine...
Honestly, i dislike microsoft for some things they screwed up with windows (and i personally prefer not using windows), but compared to sony/apple/oracle, they are just the lumbering clumbsy giant of the tech world (and their CEO happens to be straightjacket material). And save for some hardware issues, i think the xbox 360 is an excellent gaming platform.
adblock should be doable for 90% of the population by simply asking their friendly neighbourhood geek (oh yes, i realize what i'm getting myself into), for over the phone instructions, or 2 minutes work.
I have a problem with the idea that since 90% of users is too stupid to deal with this (rather trivial) problem themselves, the government should step in and save us (or you, considering i'm not in the USA). This kind of thing is way beyond what the government should be doing, and only opens the door for more power-grabbing
The original xbox "L" controller was too large for me as well, but the "S" and 360 controllers work very well, i also quite like the gamecube controller.
My hands are average size AFAIK, but even my GF who has significantly smaller hands (she is around 168 cm) has no issue with the 360's controller
that doesnt really matter that much, clock/data propagation stages in a data channel are nothing new. Intel's Pentium 4 had pipeline stages which only served to propagate the data/instruction one step further down the pipeline.
Sure, the added latency isnt all that nice, but 1 clock-cycle to anywhere isnt needed anyway
personally i cant use a dual shock (or pre-analog PS controller) for more then 15 minutes before my hands cramp up and i have to stop playing, it is one of the (many) reasons i have not bothered with a playstation since i got rid of the psone
Personally i prefer the xbox 360 controller to pretty much any other controller out there
If an IED is obvious enough that you can spot it from a distance, stopping your humvee is much easier then, while driving, unfold your wings/gyro rotor, build up speed and take off high enough to be out of the blast range...
which is cool and all, but that doesnt make the price OK just out of nowhere
Sure, i would pay a certain amount to watch stuff without commercials (and to some extent, i already do so by maintaining/expanding my media server, even though i pay the wrong people, just saying it isnt a zero cost thing), but if there is a significant chance i would be able to buy a season on DVD and OWN it, rather then being allowed to watch it ONCE, for the same price...
Bull, a company treating you poorly is perfect justification for leaving ASAP, it does not justify active sabotage and other crap
If you get to the point where you want to install deadman switches and such, FIND A NEW JOB, and just normally leave. Life is too short to continue working at shit jobs, and sabotaging stuff most likely will land you in much more trouble anyway
just want to say i am with you, All the DRM crap has put me off PC gaming, i do still game a bit with the 360 or the wii though, but even there i have some DRM policies (I passed up AC2 on the xbox because of the shit they pulled on the PC version)
There is no reward for companies that go DRM-free. The people that pirate do so because the pirated version is $0. Good will does not convert pirates.
then consider this, i have not pirated software since my student days, DRM however has turned me away from PC gaming to the point i sold all my game-capable hardware, and i only have windows on my laptop for the few programs i still need windows for.
I might not fall in the typical gamer demographic, and i do not pirate software, but DRM has cost the big publisher sales from my part. Hell, i even flat out refused to buy Asassins Creed 2 for my xbox after seeing what they did with the PC version, Ubisoft in general is pretty close to making my permanent "Do not buy" List, along with EA
i think MS also disclaims any responsability, that should tell you enough about windows' fitness for mission-critical stuff
regardless of law, putting any mission critical system (especially when lives depend on it) on a windows machine should be chargeable with criminal negligance, and in this case, manslaughter
I'm not saying you dont have a point, but discounting factors such as food/drink intake is stupid. When i first started working, i drank about 8-9 cups of tea a day (out of boredom mostly, when you have to sit through 45 minute compiles on a single core machine, the coffee-machine suddenly is awesome). This was that horrible machine-produced tea too, with lots of sugar. Every weekend in those first few months i would have splitting headaches at home, and just feel like crap, however, monday morning, after a first cup of tea, i would be allright again. Many people have the same effect with coffee.
Now obviously my situation was the other way around, sick at home, OK at work, but these kinds of factors (what does the school cafeteria serve? etc..) definitely can have an impact.
As for the wifi claims, utter bollocks, unless all these kids live in wifi-free, neighbourhoods. Even if your house doesnt have wifi, you will still be well within wifi-range of the router next-door, across the street etc..
The code itself is written in java syntax, which is then compiled to DALVIK bytecode (rather then java bytecode) and run on a DALVIK vm, on a phone which has no java on it what so ever.
If Google built a C# compiler that output dalvik compatible bytecode, the end result would be the exact same, and does not mean android phones suddenly run C#
except that android does not have an acutal java implementation. It has a dalvik VM, which runs non-java bytecode.
The fact that the de facto standard syntax for writing code that gets compiled into dalvik bytecode happens to be java, does not mean an android phone has any java on it.
i dont know about you guys, but my company still enforces internet explorer as their only approved browser.. You think they will catch on to this?
(and yes, this is a multinational with people in india)
newer games will also require the newer firmware, and even ship with the update on the disc
car analogy "either you agree to agree with any agreement we give you, or we wont allow your car to run on any newly built roads"
yeah, newer games can require a newer firmware version and possibly ship with the update right there on the disk
effectively sony is saying "games or linux, you chose", which is right in the face of the fact that it was sold as "games and linux"
well, i have her convinced that android is better then getting a new iphone (and it didnt even take any brainwashing techniques), so dumping wont be needed :)
(kidding, off course.. when we got together she had a windows mobile phone, and had just bought a laptop with vista... i honestly dont care too much)
it is a critical vulnerability fix, two minutes to late
try updating itunes without getting all sorts of apple crapware on your system...
My GF updated itunes a while back on my laptop to sync her iphone, and suddenly i had safari installed...
and yes, i know my own flaws here:
1) let my GF on my laptop
2) own an ipod, thus needing itunes
3) running windows on my laptop
at the very least 2 will be corrected pretty soon (same for her iphone, she wants android now..)

about 6 foot (185cm)

Consumers have no technical way to protect themselves.
Adblock/host-file
sure that doesnt eliminate the tracking, but at the very least you arent haunted by that sextoy you considered buying for the next few weeks..

that's what i was thinking.

If your brothers simply buy a US copy and ship it to you, you should be fine from what i understand.
Just make sure you have a decent internet connection...
(or hell, just play the original SC)

that removes apps only, not android itself.. i would find it very hard to believe google would build in a self-wipe function
How does this work? would google have to hunt down every single android phone and destroy/wipe its software?
If so, they will have to extract my android device from Lary ellison's bum.
i just have to reply to this

I SAID THAT
