That Phenom II uses 30W more than the Core i5, so it'll cost you about $30 a year more to run, and be less upgradable.
True, except for when you already have a AM2/AM2+/AM3 board, or a good supply of ddr2 ram. In that case the phenom is a drop in upgrade, versus a platform upgrade for the i5. Also keep in mind that AMD will be releasing 6-core CPUs this year too, and they will fit in any recent AM2+/AM3 board, while for the intel high end stuff, you are locked into their 'premium' 1366 socket.
anyway, AMD does have a slight edge in BFTB in the lower segment
Intel always prices their High end around $1000, never mind the fact that price/performance on those chips is horrible.
It is the price you pay for getting the bleeding edge, AMD also has some halo models, but because they cant beat intel in performance, they cant afford to charge $1000 for their high end chips.
As for this comming down, AMD is slated to release six-core phenoms to the desktop before summer iirc, it wont have the raw performance of this thing, but 6 cores for under 200 bucks sounds nice doesnt it?
i tend to agree that HardOCP and especially Kyle are a wacky bunch. Especially around hardware reviews, the [H] folk tend to revel in trash-talking other sites for not using 'real world' benchies... Just about any review that slightly contradictes what the mighty Kyle says is flamed down as using 'canned benchmarks' at best, or paid for at worst...
and any criticism on the forum is quickly covered up.
I like the hardforum for general stuff, but when it comes to hardware reviews and Kyle in general i tend to stay the fuck away
these would be the windows versions consumers are most likely to have into contact with (2k at work perhaps..) and even then.. who cares if they just made the number up? 7 sounds completely different from vista, and save for 95-98 MS never had a real coherent numbering scheme towards the public anyway (perhaps ME counts too as '00). For all i care they could have named 7 'Windows Neo 2.0'
just nitpicking, but you do know you can choose which "random icons" are on the home screen right? even the bar on the bottom is completely configurable in that respect.
As for returning it after 36 hours, sure, but if your wife has one, then why oh why didnt you mess around with that for a while? My girlfriend has a 3GS, and i messed around with it enough to decide to get an ipod touch for myself (basically an iphone minus the phone bit), and i love it.
Not to say the iphone is the jesusPhone some people make it out to be, but it seems like you went about trying one half-arsed and arse-backwards at the same time..
I had a n96 for a brief period. After using a 6120 classic for a year, i decided to get a better plan, and get a real smartphone in the process. I liked the S60 OS on my 6120, so i went for nokia/symbian again, in the form of the n96. BIGGEST CRAPPHONE EVER
The n96 is a horrible phone, and a true shame for symbian. The 6120 i have however, works nicely, even though its screen isnt the biggest ever.
in short, there are crap symbian phones, but there also are quite capable symbian phones
*mumble mumble* Fedora *mumble* CLOD! *mumble*
seriously though, very interesting idea, just standardize on debian, ubuntu will work (my current main distro), or shuttleworth (or the new guy..) will get ripped a new one, and tons of people will migrate to debian, and all ubuntu-children (mint i think..) should work too.
And im guessing that to the general Fedora/Suse/Gentoo/, dual booting to some debian flavor is much more acceptable then dual booting to windows.. (would be for me, i need to nuke my win 7 beta install one of these days..)
PFew... for a second i was worried wether my centos VPS with tomcat (apache based, you never know), would be vulnerable to this
Thanks for putting my mind at ease:)

plus i like rooting for the underdog
you didnt add up the numbers did you?
*whoosh*

not sure if im missing any *whoosh* sounds here, but NI just means independent
and my joy over this vote is only deminished by the shame of having three of my fellow dutchmen vote against..
anyway, go europe!

would that by chance have been a N96?
