  1. Ok its obvious ... on Fred Moody Says Linux Worst Operating System Ever · · Score: 1

Moody was brainwashed when he was writing "A Year with Microsoft On the Multimedia Frontier". He obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. The article doesn't even list his credentials, only books he has written. That doesn't make him an expert on Linux or any operating system for that matter. Moody needs to do more research before he can realy say that Linux is the worst operating system ever. Simply judging linux by the number of bugs it hasis like saying that a business sucks because the doors to the building don't work properly.

  2. Re:How does PayPal do it? on Finding the Right Online Credit Card Merchant? · · Score: 1

Technicaly PayPal isn't supposed to allow businesses to use their service if they use a credit card verification service. They would be violating the TOS if they did. Allowing businesses to process CCs under their account makes them a processing farm which the CC Companies vehemently disallow (they lose money that way).

  3. WINE documentation on How Is Wine Doing These Days? · · Score: 1

I currently have a duel boot at home. I've tried to use Wine but the documentation is lacking and configuration *still* cryptic at best. If they took the time to document it correctly maybe it would receive more praise and use. I have heard of people getting games like EverQuest and the likes to work with WINE and I have tried it my self but have never goten it to work. Any insight on this would be appreciated.

  4. Chicken Little never had it so good on Could This Be The End Of The Internet? · · Score: 1

If you read the article, the security company Packeteer wasn't about blocking access to Napster or Gnutella, it was about freeing up bandwidth because the two have an uncany ability to be pigs about it. This is unfair for the other users who also need that bandwidth to do work, research or whatever. The main complaint was that Napster and Gnutella were making the network unusable because they took up all the bandwidth. On the other hand Palisade Systems had made a product to block them out completely. Could this be the end of the net? No, I don't think so and it doesn't help to run around screaming that the sky is falling either. The companies that offer the most options are going to be the winners in this game. People are too vocal for the worst to happen. I'm for a device that keeps Napster or Gnutella from hogging all the bandwidth. its more fair to everyone. As far as a full cut off. Thats going to be up to the isp to do that and basicaly they'll just suffer when people won't sign up because they can't do what they want.

  5. WTF? on Do You Permit SMTP Verify? · · Score: 1

Ok your asking how to verify the individual's or business' email and your wondering if you should do it by VRFY? Send them an email with a random string and have them reply to it. But if its a security issue as far as who you are selling these "potentialy dangerous chemicals" to. Its going to take far far more than just verifying that they have a valid email address to make sure that you're not selling to the wrong type of individual. Email? Random string, definatly. The rest? You need to do some more thinking.

  6. Re:Actually, it makes sense on Court Rules For Connectix, Against Sony · · Score: 1

The problem is that game developers will still want to develop games for Sony's console system, whatever they come out with. If Sony charges a per game sold fee and a company makes an emulator for that system. Sony still gets their cut of the action. So PC gamers get to play Sony games on home PC boxes and Sony still gets money for it. So whats Sonys problem with this besides the fact that they lose sales of a console? If a developer wants to make games for the PC they would do so, unfortunaly Sony makes them agree that the game they create would be only for their product.

  7. Its a whole new ball game now! on Court Rules For Connectix, Against Sony · · Score: 1

I totaly agree with Passion. I don't think the Judge realises that he just opened up a Pandoras box concerning the emulation of software. This paves the way for WINE to reverse engineer the Microsoft library to better emulate windows for running the windows software. If the happens, I am sooo there.
