"They (radioactive isotopes) are also dangerous because they decay and are consequently the ground for mutations."

And why is this a bad thing? If you believe evolutionary science is correct, as a large portion of western society does, you should see mutations as a good thing. How are we supposed to evolve further if we don't mutate?

  5. You can not destroy culture on Academe: Technology For Sale · · Score: 1

You Fail to see one basic point. Culture is whatever culture happens to be at the time. As old ways of doing things fade away new ones pop up. That is not a bad thing. So in the long run trying to protect culture is not only futile but actually holding us back.

alright there are 2 things that are bugging me about the whole Napster debate.

    1) The United States government is trying to control the internet. This buggs me for 2 reasons
a)I really dislike the idea that the internet can be controlled by any government or orginization. the internet, as much as possible should be controlled by its users.
b)I am Canadian. In Canada our government decided that it would not attempt to controll the internet in any way. So why do decisions that are made under US law affect me? I am a Canadaian under Canadaian Law

2)There are people who use the internet for valid purposes. I know of two
a)my dad uses it to trade old old radio programs
b)a frient trades classical music that is in the public domain
Why should they be punnished for the crimes that others are commiting? Just because the majority of people are using Napster for illegal purpose does not Give the US the right to punnish the entire group

    It will only get worse

  7. Re:This is not "how we live" at all on Snapshotting the Whole Internet? · · Score: 1

The trouble with the web is that although it is supposedly accessable to anyone with a phone line and a PC, the harsh reality is that cost and communications infrastructure have meant that only those of a certain socioeconomic group are currently able to use the web

I am forced to disagree. Anyone can and does use the internet. I live in a relitivly small town 80,000 people and we have 2 free internet servers. So all people need is a phoine line and a cheep old pentium you can get for under 100 bucks. second free computers for internet are all over, in libraries and city hall ect. So if you really want or need to use the internet you can even if your stuck on welfare.

Mostly harmless was the best book of the whole series. It presented a realistic side to the characters. Furthermore, how else was he supposed to end the series "they all live hapily ever after". Yea right that would be so stupid! Not to mention, because of how it endit you don't have to put up with all those nagging thoughts of "Gee I wonder what happend after the book ended". And what about the sandwitch maker? that has got to be the funniest thing I've ever read in my entire life. It was a stroke of genius!!! And how can you say that this is sad book the whole way through Arthur was happy for the first time in his entire life while he was making sandwhiches.

Anyway while Im writing I'll post my question.

Where on earth(or off the earth for that matter) did Douglas Adams get the insperation for the sandwhichmaker?

When you shelled out that $17 for "a piece of cheap plastic" you were paying for the right too listen to the music. You were not actually paying for the music itself. Prozzac, or whatever band you happen to like, still owns the music. Its like when you pay to go watch a hockey game. By paying for the ticket you have bought the right to go inside and watch the game. You have NOT just bought the hockey team. Too think any diferently is ludicrus and insane.
