So, you're saying that the quiet, massive majority has tons of disposable income to purchase the same thing multiple times? I must say, I have a hard time believing that.
I don't know where you live, but where I live, people don't have tons of money to throw around. When they purchase something, they purchase the tangible goods, because they want to know that the item(s) they have purchased is *theirs*. As an example, one of my neighbors is a huge bookworm, but she will only purchase physical books. She torrents the ebook versions to store on her Nook for when she goes on vacation and doesn't have the luggage space for the physical books.
I know that I act safe. I drive safe, No points on my license, and have never physically hurt anyone, except for my younger brother (which siblings sometimes do), and have never killed anybody.
The thing is, I don't THINK its wrong to hurt or kill anyone, or run them over with your car, given that you had reason. I've seriously thought like that for years. Never got in the way, but I've tended to be a violent person inside. I've thought of punching my boss, and more (which I will not comment upon, as one of you may be... well, You get the picture).
Its not the games. Its not completely the parents. Its how people treat you during your child hood.
Does anybody remember filling out a survey? I sure don't. I don't remember filling out anything asking about my music tastes, and how I get it. Neither does anybody I know personally. I really have cut down on buying music myself, but that is because of saving for a large international move at the end of the year, not due to the Economy. If CD's cost less, I'd have bought one in the last few months.
I don't download music off the net. Never have, and don't plan on starting to. I do have a personal access to all my music (Which I have bought, over 200 CDs, several Tapes I converted, and a few Vinyls that are converted), so I can listen to all the music from home at work.
So, In conclusion, I'd like to find out where they got these stats, and how I fit in there. According to their stats, Most of us download music, and don't buy CD's, or just download music without buying them.
What would they do if you bought....

What would the stores do if you bought a Mag strip reader/encoder with the Gift Card you got?
Just a thought, but....
There is bound to be several Slashdot readers who work at shops that sell CD's. Some of those are bound to be managers of some sort.
Lets see if they can just stop the purchase of the CD's before they hit the stores.
Either from the manager or regular employee standpoint, it will reduce the number of these CopyProof CD's out for sale. This hurts the Recording company, and not local shops.
I work as an Apple repair technican, and from what I can tell, yes, we have some idiot employees... some very stupid, and brain dead.
I do know, however, that there is good ones, who do a good job. I do my best to repair Apple comptuers. Sorry if you had one bad experience, though I doubt it, your just zealous on other hardware/software. Can't back it out, you are zealous.
Also, the chip that comes with the Titanium PowerBook G4's, its not soldered on. Just not very accessable. I can get it out, and replaced in about 20 minutes, including finding my stolen screwdrivers.
i agree, Speakeasy DSL is probably the best service out there... there site even shows how geeky they are and includes FUN stuff... such as their kontent.net, and they include quotes of the day...
see any other provider... all it says is on a simple white backgrounded design "we are the best". the next month they are out of business...
don't use X. keep using Mac OS 9 if you have apps you need to use.... don't be stupid.
I would love to run Mac OS X on my G4, but im not gonna rush and buy a copy, and install it on my SERVER. That would be stupid. There isn't all the right ported software that i use to maintain and do every thing i do in Mac OS 9 yet. I will wait until Adobe makes a patch to run photoshop on X.
I hate it when Fox 2 Detroit does that... it annoys the hell out of me. even worse is they almost pulled me over a few weeks back while in detroit. good thing the other guy was going 4 KM/h over the limit, while i was only 3.
I live about a half hour outside D-Town (Detroit), and Im pissed at this idea. If it spreads, i might have to be verified with a phone number or CC to my mail addys??? What if i own the domain? Do they still need my damn numbers? I can just hear it now:
"Hi, IM calling from the Michigan department of computers, and i need to verify your address Moldy@moldycr.net"
"Uh... IM moldy, Get the fucking WHOIS lookup printout"
Anyone with an older machine, before G3's, will be stuck using linuxPPC if they want a unix like op/sys. Mac OS X has the damn limitations on it, and will not boot its kernel on my PM 8500.
you must have missed a story posted a little while ago, about LinuxPPC...
which runs on macs, as well as yellow dog, and SuSE has a Mac hardware distro.
don't go by what you think of the company to judge its OS. My one server (code name NegativeNINE) was running Mac OS 9, and stable everyday between 3/March/2000 through mid October/2000, when i had a blackout. That is 7.5 months at least.
and the blackout wasn't the computers fault.
i would recommend they put something a bit better on there though, such as a PowerMac 8500.
I run Mac OS X Server on NegativeNINE now, as i use it as a server for people to crack into. much more stuff to try if it runs a *nix, over Mac OS.
I tweaked my extra mouse i got, and found out how to break into it, and change the colour light inside. tis a far cry from the subject, but just noticed something about the mouse.
(for the record, The hack is here)
Im still trying to decide: Is this good or bad for me? I don't want NetZero to have a patent over something stupid like that, but on the other hand, I won't have 50 new windows popping up when going to some sites. I hate moving windows around.
wasn't "hacked" (you sound like an AOL user)
and it wasn't cracked either.
looks like the site shut down because of some serious heat they are getting into.
this is getting far to out of hand here, 157 replies to the thread... ok, that is lower than normal slashdot
11 replies at score: 1. Uh, that is not right.
i do not want to have to view at +2...
i miss some interesting posts.
im sorta interested in this, but i wanta know how much data...
that is something that most people who respond want to know, how much space will it take, and for slowing down servers.
im still trying to get people to crack into my server at 216.231.36.2
oh, and lets all get rid of that guy who is flooding slashdot with shit about birds...
I hate birds.

Ah, glad someone else noticed this.
At the risk of sounding like an insensitive racist jerk, what, exactly, has the US contributed positively to the net?
Where exactly does it say that? Unless my eyes are tricking me, the words "the US" do not exist in that first part... Though, It does say "korea".
Tell your Credit card company that you don't know how the charges on your card got there, and you think somebody misused your card.
The card company will kill the service off. One phone call, and no hassle.
