Many of the better quality and newer LCD's have a very good Viewing angle, the key is to get the specs before you buy. My new Sharp Aquos 30" LCD has a viewing angle of 170 Degrees horizontal and vertical, fits my needs just fine for computer and Tivo / TV
I believe that the cable companies have lost the real opportunity to gain total control over what we watch, and how we watch it. People will often go for subscription services, but if they have to watch the advertisments anyway (I suppose they can still mute them), then why go with this option. With stand alone devices like TiVo, the owner of the device (read:end user) is in total control of what they record, how long they can store it, when they can watch it, and when they can re-schedule a recording.
The cable companies want to take that away from people, and it may have worked, if TiVo had not been so popular. I think the only VoD services that are going to fly will have to give the customer _Total_ control over what they want. I predict that this technology will be limited to VoD for pay-per-view movies, not regular television.
You seem to be a bit our of the main stream in digital video archiving/compression if you think Wavelets aren't being used for anything.
Integral Technologies uses a modified wavlet compression technology for storing Digital CCTV Recordings. So does Nice for a matter of fact. The fact is that along with H.626 (video conferencing compression, I think) Wavelet is the most widely chosen compression scheme in the security industry.
Not surprisingly, this seems to be the common theme with tests of the DMCA. Any time a blatant violation of Human Rights happens because some big company flexes it's muscles, they get smart and don't go all out. What they really fear is that they will get taken to court on such a violation, and the court system will have no choice but to repeal the DMCA. Big companies may be able to bully you around and put you in jail, but if you are not breaking any law (other than that excuse of a law named the DMCA), your chances of staying there are slim. With each blatant disregaurd for human rights, it's only a matter of time until it is repealed and fair use rights are restored to the citizens of the United States.
If you're looking to do a real whiz-bang job on your house and you have some time (and some real money) to kill, then I would highly suggest putting in some Continuum hardware componets made by Andover Controls. They have hardware that is ethernet based and can control HVAC units, Phone interface units, Access Control (card readers), and just about anything else. You can use their powerful NT based GUI which is completley customizable or you can telnet into the devices and control items a la Linux. There is a lot of really great potential here as well as the unit's ability to accept Plain English(tm) Programming that allows you complete control over anything it can do. Pretty slick stuff if you ask me. I work in the Access Control industry and we have several of these systems installed for complete building automation. The compontes are a little on the pricey side, but if you are looking to get really serious about your home automation, then this is at least worth a look.
I've seen this simulation several years ago, probably a eary version. The creatures evolve by themselves and only the environment and the habits of other creatures (hunting, etc.) affect the way they evolve, as it turns out, the system automatically leans towards interdependence among the creatures, not all that surprising I suppose, since we see it all the time in the Ecosystems of Earth.
So I'm assuming that this is the fastest single processor desktop ever made, becuase I made a 1,866 MHz machine a few weeks back, Dual PIII 933 MHz, surely this machine can out-perform the 1,600 MHz machine, since at the very least, it has twice the registers and twice the cache. Just a thought.

Great, now squirrels can remember EXACTLY where they buried thier nuts....
As Far as I know, the offical "turn-off" date for non-HDTV signals has been scheduled for 2006, and has been for quite some time.
