This is absurd. How is a PS2 teach citizens of third world countries how to stop AIDS, clean water, and harvest crops? These people have never seen a computer in their life before, it's hard enough for people in America to use a computer. Someone must have to teach these people how to use these 'computers.' Why don't these people just tell them all the information instead of setting them infront of some box. Rather than wasting billions of dollars to 'educate,' why don't we put the money to helping them. Genetic seeds can be made to withstand harsher climates, while providing much better nutrients than regular food. These people don't need a PS2, they need to survive. The money could be used to help educate and feed children who have been orphaned by AIDS. There are many African tribes where they belive that in order to cure AIDS, you must sleep with a virgin. I encourage people to support a third world country, either through your money, or through your help. America is the richest nation, also the greediest nation. What was that one book where they took everything out of houses from people living in different parts of the world? That was a good book, showed how much richer than we are than everyone.
I would recommend a nokia 8290 as the cell phone of choice. At least where i live, you can get this phone if you are using voicestream cell phone services. The 8290 has a built in IR port which can save you some money. Rather than hooking up a pc card and plugging a cord from the laptop to the cell phone, you can place a laptop next to the cell phone and it will transmit data.(Almost every older apple powerbook has a IR port built in.) This phone is also very nifty as it is nice and small. Be sure to check with the company that you are getting the phone through that it's the 8290, not the 8260 which lacks the IR port.
Stories posted on slashdot in the last few months talked about the lack of information in genes. This story seems to show that there still is information in the genes that's "usefull". What do they look for to see how you'd be pre-disposed to how you position your wrists and take breaks and such?
IBM used to always be known as a very strict company, where the dress policy didn't allow anything close to casual. What was the cause of the company shifting from this, as they now seem like they've loosened their collars a lot more, spaypainting linux logos on sidewalks and such. When did this change occur or is it just starting now? IBM seems to be pushing the limits of advertising, something that they probably wouldn't have done 10 years ago. Not even the.com's spray painted sidewalks. Maybe if they did they would have stayed in business.
I live in Pittsburgh, and if you want to get into CERT it is a very big pain. Because it's funded mainly by the government, you need to get security checks and such and you can't just walk in or anything to try and get a job. I would like if they started charging for this and went off of government funding, as this seems like a really neat place to work. I think the main consumers for CERT will be corporations that can spring for the money, because they would rather have something "offical" coming from a fairly large sized company rather than coming from a rouge company named BugTraq. Most of us don't really use CERT rather corporations tend to because they feel using a real company is safer and will soon be willing to charge for this feature.
I'm not exactly sure of the properties of these speakers but i'm guessing they'd still have some magnetism built in or maybe i'm just wrong. If it is the case then they'd need to be shielded if you wanted to place them right on top of a tv or computer with a crt monitor. And if it would be that close you'd have to have something to shield it out with, thus making it clear useless. Am i wrong or could this be a potential problem?
when he says that 6 or 7 companies rule mass media that is a total lie. He is only thinking about the western world, and even then it's still not true. I don't think time warner has that many stations in Russia, China, or India. He seems to be forgetting that a very large percentage (over half) live in these countries.
Considering that sega stopped selling their consoles because they were losing so much money on them, i don't know how this is going to work out. Not only is it going to be a new machine in a crowded market, but it's also going to be a new company. The last new company that is still competing today is sony and that was around 4 or 5 years ago that they entered the market. Remember the Apple pippin? That was supposed to be a big machine but the reason it failed was because there wasn't a lot of software support and not enough pre-sale hype. It's going to be hard to hype a machine that's running linux because most people don't have a clue what linux is. Good luck getting support on the system as many companies are weary of other systems as they have deals with certain manufacturs already. I would like to see this work out but i'm not sure if it will be possible with the current marketing conditions. A killer app would have to be made that wouldn't be on any other system for it to even be remotely possible to win over the finnicy video game users. Sure macs have games on them now, but the reason no pc gamers switch over to mac is because there is no 'killer app'. I sure wouldn't want to pluck down a few bills on a system just because it's running linux and only able to run games with a system i already have, IMHO.

I belive that in 100 years people will look back and think that it was crazy how some people thought that homosexuality was in your genes
Now that we found out that the human geonome is so short, where is all the information stored @ now? What makes us up if our genes don't contain all the information?
You know how they always compare the Macs to the PCs and show how the mac is faster? I wonder if those benchmarks reflect the processor at 1.5ghz or 750mhz. Is the pentium IV @ 750mhz when most benchmarks are done? If this is so then why is it still faster than a 750mhz machine(except for a mac:-) )?
While it may be true that 70% of Americans go to church a week how many go just because their parents did? Many go to churches that are suited for them so that they can get their "religion" as fast as they can and then feel like they're Christans. These people aren't really religious, they just go because they think that they can go to church once a week and live a completly different life. People who i go to school with talk about how they went to church and then they got wasted later that night and had sex with someone they didn't know. Also i dispute the fact that 70% of Americans go to church once a week. Today our church was almost filled with around 500, it is usually 350. This happens at most churches in America during Christmas and Easter. Also a large percentage don't even go to Church on those days. No one on my mothers side of the family has went to church in the past 15 years. Many people that i know don't go to church or just go twice a year. What about the other religions? Probably 70% of Americans don't go to church on a weekly basis and a large number of the ones that do go don't take it seriously. Many liberal churches don't even belive most of the bible but they were probably included as being a "church." I would like you to reply with where you found this information as it seems a bit sketchy to me. I belive the British numbers as i have heard first hand accounts of the large percentage that don't go. I would rather have the true Christians rather than have ones that just want to fake it so that they feel okay.
These camera's aren't focused inside peoples apartments and such, rather they are watching streets and sidewalks. Last time i checked these were public areas. People don't get angry when they see someone walking on "their" sidewalk. If you're not doing anything wrong then why are you so afraid of them? What rights are they taking away if it's a public area?
This is nowhere near cutting edge technology that they're doing with an Ipaq. I have high expectations from MIT but this seems like a lame project. Digital cameras have already been put on almost every pda already, i can even buy one for a gameboy. If i was going to buy a gameboy camera it would be a lot smaller and a lot cheaper. I could buy 2 gameboys with 2 digital cameras on them for the same price i'd pay for an ipaq sans digital camera. So buy using a free OS and using a digital camera i would have to pay hundreds of dollars more? How well does linux even operate in the PDA enviroment. My handspring visor works fine. If it's not broke don't fix it.
