Well, with the federal government (important distinction between them and local governments!), you can pay taxes online, which helps cut down on wait time. Plus, you get your refund faster, which is great. With local governments (In NY, at least), it is more difficult to pay taxes, but you can do other things. You can start petitions, request services (such as having your pot-hole infested street fixed), and even write to your local mayor/borough president.
Nothing wonderfully amazing, but certainly helpful in spreading information and making things easier to access. I know, it seems so wrong for the government to do such things, but hey, it happens.
