  1. Re:The Ring is Authoritarianism on David Brin On LOTR · · Score: 1

Actually most fairy tales are metaphors for struggles. Yes some are sugar coated now but in the past they were not. The brothers Grimm started the sachrinization of them.

As to the Good Bad no inbetween. I live in that grey world all the time. Sometime you just want to get away. That is why we read fantasy and romance and yes Mr Brin even Science Fiction.

All science fiction is escapist literature. It is as real as any fantasy it takes us to a place where the normal world doesn't apply in one way or another.

To the point that Romaticism and the LOTR and most Fantasy itself focuses on the heroic individual over the common man is still going on. Wars are not won by the sole heroic individual this is true but the news tends to focus on the sole person or type of person. How much trying to save people or sorting through rubble it Guiliani do? How much attention was put on him for his role? Different situation same perspective. Even in squad based war dramas there is one or two people that stick out that the story follows. Even though all are heroes STORIES focus on one or two.

As to not having Kings etc etc etc. What about our Celebrity Worship? How about the political families that seem to hang on and on. How many people have been mayor in CHicago in the last 50 years that wasn't named Daly? Hmm lets see .... Bush and Shrub... and as has been stated before Kennedy?

I will let you go back to your normal posts.

Really when it comes down to brass tacks ... when the rubber meets the road ... Does it truly mater why he did it? Politics makes strange bedfellows. This is evident. You don't have to like them to have them help your cause. US and Soviet Union in WW2 had the same enemy and worked together. Just need to watch people that you ally with in on situation in case they swig opposite on others that you are for.

    That would be NormalMan

who also had a crossover with Cerebus. Who I would play in a "super hero" rpg if possible.

What I was commenting on about the warranty is that with store bought machines you have a blanket warranty that covers nigh everything. Just need to make sure your parts are covered so you can CYA if need be in case you get a bad one that manifests itself down the road.

They should. If you wipe the old HD's. You pay per machine in use. You stop using it on one and start on another as long as the first isn't still in use it shouldn't be a concern.

I see it this way. You are the one that will be working on these machines. You must factor in the knowlege that you made them and know what is in them. Just make sure you get a warranty on all the parts since you will not have one on the entire machine
