I treat different people differently too, but the issue that I was trying to get out, is that if we ask a cow if it wants to be artificially impregnated so that it produces milk its whole life, or if veal wants to be ground up, or a cow standing on a treadmill to produce power, that these things should not be subjective weather you think they are wrong or not. ( obviously they are subjective now, the point I'm trying to make is that they shouldn't be)
Your definition is not subject to my opinion, no, its not, however I'm just trying to point out that there is an impartial view to things.
In a nutshell,
I like to think that as a species which has culture, spirit, and the most "intelligence" on this planet, that we would be able to get past our basic instincts, and see that putting your dog/cat/cow on a treadmill is in fact all the same. Or eating your dog/goldfish/cow/veal is all the same, and would hope, that one day we will become a little more sophisticated, and be able to show more empathy than you average lion.
I agree with you that animals should not be treated as humans, thats just plain stupid.
However all animals should be treated equally. There should be no difference between your cat, dog, elephant, and cow.

Saying you are a animal lover is in my opinion unlikely. Just because you have a cat and a dog, while you eat cows and other meat says nothing about you being an animal lover (I know you didnt say you do, but I'm assumiung you do, and if it doesnt apply to you, it applies to any of the 100 other commentors).
Will you eat your yellow lab after he dies ? (probably not) Other parts of the world think its fine to eat dogs, and cats.
I just have a big issue with people saying, I'm an animal lover, I eat cows, I dont eat dogs. Putting a cow on a treadmill to benefit me is ok, but putting my lab on a treadmill for 8 hours, is cruel. In that case, to all of you above saying this is ok, then throw your cat and dog on a treadmill for the day and let me know why its different ?
