There's a couple of things - First, Seattle PD was taken over a couple of years ago by the Feds because of how they were handing things specifically several high profile shootings.
Second - there's a huge difference between double parking and living in a broken down vehicle illegally parked on the street. The latter is where homeless people have caused fires that can result in damage to critical infrastructure: https://www.seattletimes.com/s... http://mynorthwest.com/1034801...
What a steaming pile of dung. During the same time period, homelessness decreased in California. Seattle elected 2 socialists to the City Council. It's a veritable bonanza of freebie handouts. Mobile heroin shoot up clinics, open air drug sales even on City hall steps, no chase/no confront policies, refuse to ticket or tow stalled/broken down vehicles in streets. Seattle PD is completely hamstrung and unable to enforce laws. https://www.kiro7.com/news/loc...
Note from the article: 2 hours for PD to respond to a 911 call - hope you don't have any life threatening issues...
Seattle, population $714K has 1400 officers. Boston, population 690K, as over 2000 uniformed officers. The City refuses to spend where it's needed (like $12M per mile bike lanes). Along that same socialist thinking, just last week, the Seattle City Council did an about face and pulled $180M targeted for upgrades to the Mariners Stadium - and want's to put that $180M for homeless housing. even though in 2020, when the stadium is paid off, 30% of the $35M in bond payments no longer needed are already earmarked for homelessness. Consequently the Mariners won't sign the lease renewal. (Anyone want a major base ball team?)
perhaps this is more of a question of the people we've become and how we choose to use our tools, rather than a question if the programs we write in and of themselves are inherently evil.
name call all you want. Doesn't change the fact that if you're in charge of enterprise desktop support linux is a failure. Sure, you fanboyz can tweak things, I can too. I used to think it was fun and cool. Now i don't have time for that nonsense. I need updates that work, not updates that cause incompatible dependencies. Users are there to get a job done, not tinker under the hood. Move on. Linux is a failure.
That "would" have been a nice thing to say had Linux desktop not completely failed. I wrote and article several years ago claiming linux desktop was a complete failure. After years of development, Linux is still a pita. (pain in the a$$). If you want general wide spread user acceptance it needs to just "work". (no hacking, no driver nonsense, everything works like sound/NIC's), regular security updates that don't brick your box, and cross platform compatibility. Linux fails on all. In fact just last week Germany threw in the towel and bailed on Linux https://www.theregister.co.uk/...
So please, don't go toting something that just plainly doesn't work.
Microsoft tried to introduce the "rented os" idea almost 20 years ago. Windows XP was initially intended by to be leased by the year after which it would die if you didn't pay the annual tithe. focus group user reaction was so massively negative, Micro$oft shelved the idea, but the genie (and greed) were out of the bottle; just lurking long enough for sheeple to accept the idea of own-nothing pay-per-all. Given the success of social media, I guess we're all more than happy rolling over and forking over our lives and wallets.
Let's see another round of "the wave" in a stadium filled with blockchain fanboyz continually screaming it's a technology going to change the world and every bank needs to jump there now!
Oops.....
First - yes, that's essentially what i said.
Second - perhaps advertising is "worse", but then again, without vetted news people, stories and processes - a result of advertising capital moving from news media to social medial - no organization can be held accountable.
Third - Fact; the GOP hasn't won popular vote in a first term presidential election since Bush 1 - 27 years ago. . The only way the GOP can hang on to the seat is via gerrymandering. But, you just keep waiving that "lost election" flag so what ever dude - but the real losers here are American Citizens..... Mueller has 24 indictments against Trump related personnel including 5 guilty pleas... After years of investigating (but, but, but, but, but.... HILLARY!), the entire DOJ investigation landed with a big thud nothing burger finding no more then 'ya, the email server thing was a bad idea'. Meanwhile Trump claims global warming is a fake news, contradicts himself in one statement after another, states Putin is a stand up fella and Canadians / EU are the real enemies. If any of these happened during a Dem president, the right would have started impeachment process - like they did to Clinton over a blow job (making the US look like uptight idiots - but Slick Willie lied! ok, listen to Trumpkin for 5 minutes and try and find the truth... where's the impeachment process? where's the outrage? I got it, no corporate $$ so the people don't matter).
Glad you a MAGA guy and all, just keep drinking the coolaid. Eventually the toxic waist you guys are allowing back into the environment might get you - more likely will poison your kids, but hey, it's not you right! good job.
There has always been fake news - we used to call it bullshit, hearsay, rumors, gossip.... whatever
There are 3 critical differences today.
First, most people seem to completely lack critical thinking skills.
Second, as advertising dollars have gone charging after social media, away from traditional news, we've lost research, vetting, source verification, professionalism and objectivity from the news cycle
And Lastly is political polarization. We have politicians, more importantly the "leader of the free world", who routinely spouts blatant fabrications, just complete malarkey, and the rest of his party refuse to hold him accountable for any nonsense that my fall from his mouth or twitter account. Even sadder are the minions who believe it - simply because it comes from the party of their affiliation.
US Law enforcement has always been in the pockets of the Plutocracy to enforce profits. From Land Barons, Intellectual Property tactics haven't changed.
This feels oddly familiar to the '90's case of the US DOJ vs Microsoft where Microsoft tried to claim that IE was an integral "part" of the operating system.
Apparently the US has become the haven for "profit at any cost"..
So long as you have an army of corporate attorneys in your pocket, you're pretty much free to do whatever you want to whomever you want in the Good'ole U. S. of A.
read it an weep:
Of the homeless camp residents “They were offered services. We even offered them jobs with labor people for a few months,” – “all their offers were rejected, including money to help clean up their own mess.”
https://q13fox.com/2018/06/01/...
Those of you who believe that homeless is a result of rising rents are drinking the liberal cool aid. I have 3 kids in the Seattle area ages 19-26, none with college degrees, all working full time and all living in homes/apartments. Albeit, they have roommates, but they are not homeless
Many, many programs exist to help the homeless BUT, let me repeat BUT – you have to follow the rules. No drugs, in/out by certain hours, actually WANT to work.. but unfortunately, the vast majority of homeless are drug addicts, mentally ill, unable to follow rules so in realty they prefer street life.
Here’s a few articles from your regional Seattle news orgs:
35 tons of garbage from 1 homeless camp
90 sheriff service calls in 2017 https://q13fox.com/2018/05/31/...

it's not corporations or housing prices, but choices.
head in the clouds dude, sorry. Tell me that downtown Seattle is just as "fun" as it used to be in the '90's. Nope... not even close. Homeless getting raped, robbed and committing crimes on a daily basis. SPD won't touch 'em. The graffiti is everywhere - tents line i5 past Northgate. Piles of garbage stream down from their encampments to the highway, filled with excrement, needles, garbage, all sorts of unnamed filth - tell me this was here in the '90's and I'll call you a liar.
Just like the recently (last month) homeless camp that Pierce County sherrifs dept broke up - only 1 person wanted assistance.
Secondly, California properties have seen a similar increase in prices, yet, homelessness has decreased.
They;ve come here. cat's man, feed'em you get more.
I"ll show you an entire homeless encampment - Pierce County Sheriff's department cleared a homeless encampment of more than 100 people. of the 100 people only 1 (ONE) accepted any services or help.
The fact that most people refuse to accept is that most of the homeless in seattle are drug users, mentally ill, have issues with authority and simply refuse to follow rules. There ALREADY exist plenty of programs to help the homeless. But these programs require you follow rules - ie: no drug use, back in the facility by 10pm, no violence, etc. These people simply refuse or are unable to follow rules - thus they choose to be homeless.
Who is this "we" you speak of?
Are not the children of illegal aliens being punished for their "sins" of illegal border crossing?
Are not the children of those who go into America's penal system punished for their parents "sins"? ie: parents have always lost their children when they go to prison. There are no "child care" options in prison, thus if women get pregnant or give birth while in prison, they lose their children
Also note, that China does not officially recognize any religion, therefore "sin" as it is known in judeo christian countries does not exist in China.
As a Seattle-ite myself, the “homeless problem” here has little to do with Amazon. It is directly in the laps of a socialist City Council and liberal voters who roll out the red carpet with freebee’s for homeless, (like doctor staffed heroin shoot up sites with free needles) a hobbled police force that is not allowed to enforce laws, arrest drug deals, site or tow broken down vehicles, a “no chase, no confront” policy towards shoplifters, homeless encampments that allow drug use. And the list goes on and on. Meanwhile working citizens see taxes skyrocket for various “studies” and $12 million dollar per mile bike lanes
"You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. Now show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms.
Then you can stand up and sing about the land of the free."

As so clearly demonstrated FB’s automated “flagging”, the United States no longer enjoy any forms of freedom of speech. No longer are we allowed to freely discuss ideas. Deeming and idea “hate speech” is really just the knee jerk response of the weak minded, lack of critical thinking skilled zombies the majority of the United States has become.
The difference between and flying or boating club is things are seldom used and scheduled a year out. One person has it this week, another a different week, etc. Where as a shared "car" is something all parties need daily.
A better use of the money would be to not take if away from citizens in the way of taxes in the first place.......

If you want prices to drop - the answer is simple. Skip the product, buy something else for a cycle. The company will reduce prices in response.

"white privilege" is BS. This is America, learn to speak proper English... you know, the type that goes into reports, documentation, proposals, etc.
