I dont think Simpons is like this at all...One of the large parts of the appeal of the Simpsons seems to be that you can not get the reference at all, and its still funny! That is why kids can enjoy the Simpsons, as well as adults.

Wow. You really have no idea what your current automotive mechanic does do you? Automitve technicians have had to know electrical engineering, EPROM programming etc for years. More often than not electrical problems are the ones that cars have more than anything now days.

Infact, just to throw in something linux and trendy, I even use a "scanner" at work that is linux based which plus into your ECU to diagnose all kinds of electrical, and mechanical problems.

Actually, at least around me, I'd be willing to bet most people go their start on some sort of Apple system, since we had them in schools from first grade on up. Maybe that was just my school, but somehow I doubt it.

    from the kuro5hin faq:
What's up with the name? What is a "kuro5hin"? Is that 'l337 Sp33k?

No, it is most decidedly not 'l337. It's a pun on my name. Kuro5hin == corrosion == rust == Rusty. The gratuitous '5' in the middle in an homage to the character "Da5id" in Neal Stephenson's excellent Snow Crash. It started out as just an amusing thought that popped into my head, and became an online alias. It stuck around as an online alias since it wasn't ever registered or used anywhere, being a word that I made up AFAIK. And it became my domain name cause all the other short snappy names were taken (well, "kuroshin.org" is not taken, but hey -- it's too late to change now :-)).

Update: John Prevost informs me that while "kuroshin" doesn't appear to be a valid Japanese compound, the roots "kuro" and "shin", smushed together, could be interpeted roughly as "dark devotion" or "black heart," among other variants of that basic (gothicly depressing) theme. I thought that was pretty cool. For the record, I don't know any Japanese, and the name wasn't supposed to be Japanese anyway. At least it didn't turn out to mean "lustful ferret" or something. :-) (or "Demon fetus" :))
