There are also prima donna Managers, Executive assistants, Bankers, Stock Brokers, Doctors, Professors, Hair Stylists, etc... In short, there are prima donna PEOPLE who happen to make a living at a specific profession.

It is easy for a craftsperson to be a prima donna because they can easily come to the false conclusion they are unique.

You know what... If I write a program in a week that saves my company 700,000/year over the next 5 years... i'm going to have a little personal pride. It's human... It's fun...

If not, does that mean all you have to do to avoid paying is install Caldera Linux on one workstation, delete all the Caldera crap, and then clone the workstation over the network?

Or better yet... just use Slackware...

well... It will take a while before this appears in products. IBM probabaly had the building blocks for a 1Ghz processor back in 1989. It takes a while before Science and the Marketplace converge to make a product. Sometimes the technology is there, but it's too expensive. Sometimes the technology is there, but there is no product or market. More often than not, the market exists and the technology does not... :-)

I hope the fact that none of these windowing systems have been wildly popular does not indicate the contrary. I personally worship NeXT... but it was kind of a flop. Even though it was beautiful and superior technology.

I hope there were other reasons NeXT flopped; and those factors will not cause the same end for OSX. Because, so far, I like what I see in OSX. I have never owned a Mac in my life. After playing with OSX at CompUSA, I'm seriously considering purchasing one of those new ibooks...

Attempted to uninstall NS6 from control panel, got error message "an error occured while attempting to uninstall Netscape"... Went to directory where the downloaded installation files reside, ran uninstall program... no feedback on progress or completion. After a few minutes, rebooted system. 17. Re:helpdesk automations? on How Much Manpower Is Behind Your Help Desk? · · Score: 1

I develop helpdesk automation solutions for IBM. IBM has big, strategic, solutions to automate network administration tasks and customer contact (HelpNOW). They also have VRU and Switch software (DirectTalk and CallPath). But small helpdesks could have a hard time cost-justifying such things. As just about everyone who attempts to automate a large number of helpdesks can tell you... Every Helpdesk or account is unique. All one can do is establish an automation infrastructure throughout the network... develop the building blocks to talk to that infrastructure... put hooks in everything so that a scripting language like PERL can script the whole thing... and make sure the developers are in constant communication with the helpdesk staff process people and Managers.

Helpdesk automation is not down to a science yet...
