Don't say it! Don't even think it! Because if I ever see an X10 ad on say Castle Crushbone, I'll be sharpening a real axe and coming for you and all the rest of the cheapskates who won't pay server maintainance fees! Verant doesnt pay the people they've got, enough for what they do.
Actually "digital" television was never intended
to look better than analog. In fact it was
designed from the beginning to look like shit
compared to current analog(NTSC)broadcasts.
It instead was designed so that digital HDTV bradcasters to be could invest in new DHDTV transmitters but still be able to use thier NTSC
equipment and media. However when sending the digital eqivalant of NTSC resolution over an HDTV size channel you are only using about a third of the bandwidth or less. What your cable company is doing is allowing you to see three times more of the usual mundane cable tv bullshit for your $60.
We bought several $10,000 to $15,000 wide screen PDP's for some exhibits here where i work(not our idea though). These exhibits use dvd players. Well whenthe PDP's got done scaling and croping the images, and even when they didn't the images still looked like crap! But if we were to feed them an HDTV signal using HDTV recorded media I'm sure it would look just fine.
They(Kalifonia)will be shooting themselves in the foot if this bill pases. If the enviroment gets to hostile for the affected companies they'll just take thier business elsewhere along with any taxes they do generate. Apearently the liberal democrats are just too fucking stuuupid to realize this simple fact of life and will never "get it".
Here in St. Louis where I live most businesses are in St. Louis county or Franklin County. Only a few remain inside the city boundaries. But a lot of these businesses use "St louis" in thier address to identify themselves as bieng from this geographical area. The reasons these businesses have left the city are legion, but most come from city hall. one of the main reasons is the "head tax" what his means is that for each employee a buisiness has it must pay a certain percenage(of gross revenue i think)and each person who works in the city has to pay a city income tax whether they live in the city or not!
Recently a "Living wage" proposition was passed by the voters to raise the minimum wage a person can work for to around $9.00hr(note that this is local, not state or federal). Imagine what will happen in the city in two years! The law goes into effect in january and I imagine that the businesses that are left will try to deal with it for about a year, and then make plans to move after that if they are not doing so already.
A DII/COE Closed-Parallel kernel would not be the
end of the world. I'm sure for the right sum Linus, Maddog, and afew other people could come up with a DII kernel in parallel with the public releases. perhaps at a rate of one DII for every other four public releases. Is this possible? All it would have to do is look and act like a linux kernel to applications right?
Well if that's allthey got then the Amiga has them handily beat. Take a look aminet http://wuarchive.wustl.edu/~aminet/
and see for yourselves. I have been a Linux user for about 9 months now. I don't know about applications, but the last time I looked around in my Red Hat distro I found what has to be at least 500,000 little somethings that depend on linux!
Last night I went out and saw the movie Gladiator and it occured to me that if they added a gladiator event, or better yet a gladiator elemement to all the events. It would make for far more interesting viewing and increased ratings! Think about this: If figure skaters were gladiators would Tara Lipinski have won the gold, or Cristi Yamagucci? Maybe we ought to start a pettition and send it to the olympic committe? Comments?
