I don't think that happened. Schools in the UK used BBC Micros a lot (the BBC name helped), including Masters. Never seen a domesday machine at a school. (Note to self: Nick some of the BBC micros in the music room stock cuboard;) )
There was one at the science museum in Birmingham, but that closed a couple of years ago, I don't know what happened to the machine. Its either in storage, or I think a new more edutainmenty museum opened at millenium point, so it might be there.
Of course, you do have the problem of transferring the data from a BBC Micro to a PC (probably via an Acorn Archimedies or something), and data formats.
Its a ripoff of Acorn Computers RISC OS, (now owned by Pace, the desktop version is developed by RISC OS Ltd). The RISC OS Ltd website
However every person whoes been through the british education system in the last 10 years will be able to use it, as for a while Acorn computers were the mainstay in schools. However I found the drag icon to window to save system annoying myself.
Apparently some of RISC OS is still written in BASIC as well.
Its even closer to the RISC OS desktop - the icons are very similar, the drag file to a Filer window to save action. The names are even the same - Filer, Pinboard etc.;)
The RISC OS Ltd. webpage - they are the people who develop the RISC OS since Acorn Computers disappeared. There are some pictures of RISC OS 3 and 4 somewhere on the web (search for Graphical User Interface gallery in google, and lok in the mirror of the site that somes out top (if it hasn't returned)).
Anyway, I hope that we dont find out where the wedding is - you'll never get round to the vows with all the people shouting 'First Post', holding pictures of a man doing something frankly disgusting, complaing about the service, and the fact the church cant withstand the slashdotting.
What is the best way in Windows ME to reduce file cluster size from 32KB to 4KB? Every installation of Windows ME I have used (except this one) uses 4KB clusters, but my newest system uses 32KB clusters, which makes for a lot of wasted space on the hard drive.
I have Partition Magic 7, but I have not installed it. Is that my best bet? Or is there an easier method?
Sounds like your latest installation is using old FAT (FAT 16 / VFAT) rarther than FAT32. Install Partition Magic and use it to turn it into a FAT32 partition. Cant remember quite how, but its pretty simple, although it might take some time.
Or I could be spewing garbage out of my ass, which is highly probable.
Although a lot of people here would probably say a better bet would be to indtall Linux / FreeBSD / BeOS / RISC OS / get a slide rule.
People always come up with stupid meanings for (possibly meaningless) acronyms. One of my friends told me with absolute conviction that Gap stood for 'Gay and Pround' on Friday.
Did these exist? As in the Channel 4 documentory (not the current one on general codebreaking, the one from a couple of years ago on the Enigma / Bletchly Park only) only refered to 3 (they even showed one working, so they can't be that rare, unless it was a replica) and 4 rortor enigmas.
Channel 4: Showing Angel at 6:00pm vicously cut (why can't they show it agian later like the BBC does with Buffy the Vampire slayer? Is a reepeat of Countdown that important?
Scientists aim to create a "radio quiet park", where nobody will be allowed to use mobile phones, TV, radio or walkie-talkies for fear their emissions could be mistaken for signs of alien life. The most likely site is in Australia.
Does that mean there banning all mobile phones / radio / tv in Australia:)
This would be a valid comment if it was right. The Licence is ONLY for Terestial TV. I can look at the web site and listen to the radio and watch satalite TV without paying a licence.
Erm, the TV licence is for the TV - it doesn't matter what you use the TV to view (Terrestrial, Digital Terrestrial, Analouge Cable, Digital Cable (the only digital platform not to work with widescreen TVs properly is ntl's - and guess who owns part of them? Microsoft:) Analouge Satalite or Digital Sattalite). I distinctly remember seeing the TV licence adverts which pointed this out.
Of course the UK government own 3 out of 5 of the terrestrial TV stations, as they own Channel 4 as well, but thats advertising funded, and shows lots of the good American TV shows, and some good british ones as well.
Don't worry though - both operate under Royal charters of something, so the government can't go and say what they put on...
It'll get into the UK newspapers and entertainment news programs. People will then watch Channel 4 to watch the documentory and film. This will amke bothg Channel 4 and the advertisers happy. There will definatly be FILMFOUR (C4's 6 pound-a-month film channel) trailers before and after the film and documentory. People will add it to there Digital Sattalite / Digital Terrestrial / Cable package. Channel 4 gets lots more money.
One question I have is why BBC NEWS online carried this story - after all BBC ONE and TWO are competing channels...
Then again, at least Channel 4 have now got the first-run rights to a Warner Bros. programs, instead of Sky (R. Murdoch owns this, so no chance of Sky losing FOX programs...). Pity they'll be first run on a premium channel, E4.
If people want radio without adverts, try listening to (BBC) Radio 1. Go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1 and click on the listen now button (needs RealPlayer). No adverts, and great music (quite alot of American stuff, especially during afternoon (British Time) and morning, but lots of british music as well music as well.
BTW, have you lot in America decided on your standard for Digital TV (terrestrial / via areil type) yet? We had it first you know:).
ONdigital carries most national radio stations (incluiding both BBC RADIO 4's (Long Wave and FM!), and a Stero 5Live...) as well, but doesn't have Sky Digitals extra music channels, or all 4 BBC CHOICES, or Paramount Comedy Channel, or UK DRAMA. Or old-fasioned Teletext, or the 5000000 varitaions or MTV and VH1 (run from 'Breakfast Television House':)

Well, my favorite importer and maker is still around. They aren't making many pinball machines these days, but Sega is still kicking around.
I hate to say it, but I wouldn't put bets on it staying, as Sega is having a bit of trouble called 'two console flops in a row' and Pinball might be 'downsized'. That isn't an expert opinion though...

I've never known a pinball machine being in our town. The only chance of playing pinball was at motorway service stations, and I haven't seen one in there for ages. There was one at gatwick airport, but when do you get to go to an airport in britain. Damn shame.

IIRC They chose 1 button because research proved ti was easiest for begginers to learn with. Its just stuck...
BTW later iMacs come with optical mice (a la the Intellimouse) which are far better than the original hockey puck deisgn.
I thought Rhapsody was MacOS X (or at least part of it). Or is that another codename...
Well, there is web.archive.org, which goes back to 1996.
Oh, and damn Worcesterhire County Council - there schools ISP (I'm a 6th former) thingy bans Google Groups (because there 'Usenet News').
I think ROTT came abuot a year after doom. It was neat, I must install it of my Temrminal Velocity CD, which has loads of mid '90s Apogee Shareware.
Err, Apple Macintosh System / MacOS used a completly graphical system. MacOS X is the first time a MacOS has had a command line.

You forgot: Welsh (they also do Irish and Scots Galic as well).
I dont, as Opera has a search toolbar which by default is set to... Google!
Pity I have to move my TV window if I'm using it (I have it in the top right).
Perhaps we should have fs^-1 for framerate instead (I dunno how to do superscript, so I've used the power symbol instead).
