Did anyone else try to guess what words were maked out? I'd be particularly interested to see whats hidden under the Carnivore Testing -> Filter sections. My guess would be something to do with keyword and content filtering.
The answer to this is becoming all too clear. EVERY packet that leaves my home network will need to be PGP encrypted.
I guess I shouldn't be too surprised... this IS the US government we're talking about. Hrmph...
From the We-Are-The-FBI-And-We-Can-Make-A-Device-Better-Tha n-You-Can Department:
I just hope that the ISPs see that since these type of devices can be designed/managed in-house, they keep these Carnivorous bastards out of the last form of semi-private communiction on the planet. Uncle Sam doesn't need to read my email to my grandma. Don't think for a minute that these devices will only be used under 'court order'. For god's sake people...THIS IS THE US GOVERNMENT!!!
The only safe document is a tripple-encrypted document.
I agree. Besides, what moron at Sony would actually see this as a good idea?
Just think of all the kiddies out there that think 'Hey - if I can succesfully pirate enough Sony warez, I'LL GET FREE SONY STOCK!!!'. Not a very smart move.
You're at a bar - laying down some HEAVY pickup moves on a fabulous looking blonde when, all of the sudden, she screams, smacks you in the face and walks away.
Confused, you look down to discover that you're PANTS ARE GONE!!! AHHH!!!!!!! You quickly reach for your Microsoft WinGear(tm) LEP control panel (embedded in your wirstwatch) and promptly load the appropriate Armani dress slacks.jpg to the lower portion of your LEP suit.
Damn packet kiddies....
You jack into your car. Now to find out who DOSed your pants. Damn these IPv6 addys are hard to trace... AHA! Gotcha!
Of course noone actually reads the links they are too busy whining that they can't have a $1300 print appliance in their living room.
I agree with your opinion - mostly. I don't think the article was posted because of it's alleged 'incompatibility' with Linux, but rather the irony that accompanies the fact that it runs Linux, but you can't print to it with Linux.
On the other hand, it should also be seen as a thumbs up for the Linux world as we've achieved yet another corporate acceptance - Hewlett Packard.

This could work out to be the world most expensive fireworks show, provided we can see the chunks burn up in the atmosphere.
Maybe they could sell tickets to try to make some of their money back? And they said it was a total loss...
Ok. I totaly understand how this technically works....but WHY??
For example, I'm on the bus on my way to work reading the paper. I read something interesting and I'd like to follow the link. Ok, now I pull out my PDA w/ web access and browse away.
WHAT'S THE POINT??? I could have just as easily save $1 on the paper and used my PDA to get news on the web to begin with!
Next point: How many ppl out there have PDA, Cell Fone, etc. w/ wireless web access? Enough to legitimize printing annoying little barcodes that the rest of the world has to read around?
More useless technology from people who want to be 'dot com'd'.
Microsoft's knee-jerk reaction to google rumors.
Ok. Say I'm in France. I can't get to Yahoo cuz all the IPs france are blocked. Fine. I'll just dial out to my US ISP and browse from there.
I know, this would cost a small fortune in phone bills, but the point is - if people want to see it, they will.
