Please give me an example of a software company that is doing it the right way. If you're on the developer mailing lists of projects or read bugtraq it's hard to see examples of anyone giving security more than lip service.

What build are you using? I'm using 7.0.5112.0 on XP (legally from MSDN) and it adds "http://" for me.
and that 286 would be doing what right now?:)
The problem I see is that after the first 2 years your laptop is obsolete and you need a new one. University programs that are 3 or 4 years long require another investment...
Me too...I made a Risk clone that I was pretty proud of...my only limitations were memory in those days. My brother and I made chess, a game called Canyon, snake (that is now on cellphones) and a few others. In my mind, simple is best to get the young hooked on programming. After that I bought Manx Aztec C for my Amiga 500...never hurts to stat with Basic.
