I hate to use a slippery slope argument here, but oh well. Yes, drugs are in fact illegal, and no you should not be trying to take them onto a plane. Even still, without any cause to do so, there is no legal or logical basis to perform a search on EVERYONE entering the plane for drugs. Yes indeed, it would reduce (or eliminate) the illegal activity a great deal, but it would also violate everyone's right to privacy and security in their person and property that is guaratneed by the US Constitution. The reason our rights are there and the reason these types of searches should be illegal is so we don't keep endlessly justifying bigger and bigger intrusions into our privacy to prevent/punish crime. In an authoritarian state, crime is extremely low (for example, in communist China), but that is because the state has absolute authority to abuse the rights of it's citizens. I don't think that's what we want here.
This is certain, just like the current TSA baggage screening, to be used to justify unlawful searches for drugs and other contraband. In fact, just like those baggage searches, this will undoubtedly become the #1 use of this technology, in fact I would bet good money that it is part of the intent of the people funding the development of this stuff. Just wait and see.
Has it occured to anyone else that this virus could potentially be the result of some sort of bid to create a virus (potentially from some sort of biological weapons program, or something more innocuous). This thing is first off, big, which would fit since I imagne it would be difficult to work with most tiny little bits of DNA most viruses are, and it is also protected by proteins, which is a pretty unique thing. Just the sort of novel idea someone designing an incurable bug would like to add to his/her creation. It would certainly make it harder to kill and/or treat, and it would probably make it heartier to survive in the environment (and in the air or in whatever medium it was deployed). On top of all of this, it was found in a water tower. Not saying anyone was trying anything, but it's interesting when you consider the theory. I am assuming, though that if this was engineered it was either a failure for human infection, or it was a prototype or experiment of some sort on that path. In any case, it's an interesting possibility to consider.
The last time I checked, the law of conservation of energy still applies (even in Malaysia). According to the article, the hydrogen is obtained from separating it out of water (using electricity). Now, for those of you who don't know, the way you get energy from hydrogen in a fuel cell is by combining it with oxygen which gives you an electron and some water... the exact opposite of the process they are using to obtain the hydrogen. In other words, they are wasting alot of energy, and they aren't gaining any by using hydrogen. They'd be better off to use those solar cells coupled with a battery of some sort.
Yeah, and I hear they're planning on putting one of the blades perpindicular to the other four! It's a whole new way to think about shaving!

You should be very careful and thoughtful about the wordlist (as is obvious). But to be sure I would write a program that would allow you to allow access to unnescisarily blocked sites through the use of a password, which would be controlled by some sort of attendant.

I never thought I would see a pot reference AND a beer reference in a slashdot post. (click the first link at the bottom for the pot reference)
