I hate frontpage as much or more than the next guy. I was commenting on the tone of the post, not on the need for WYSIWYG editors. Any html I've generated using Composer has been hand coded later to correct browser compliance issues...

HTML sure isn't rocket science... The slim browser is of course sensible,a I wonder how many people enjoy the Mozilla-compliant composer in Netscape?!?! Almost without exception the code is spits out views fine in IE. AT quarter to four, when your eyes get sore...

  5. $$$$$$-$$-$$department on The Death Of Intellectual Property · · Score: 1

The incredible ammounts of media hype surrounding the recent net boom and music piracy has been covered largely by a clique of elite mainstream reporters who never even MEET their sysadmin! I'm a musician/graphic artist, new to computers(read=20_years). Music is my life really so I've struggled to make whatever $ possible at it. Since that often means NO budget,DIY problem solving is the rule not the exception! I think we need more imagination than ever to forge new ways for artists to thrive and prosper. The 'ivory tower'business model doesnt seem to have much traction in the muddy climate of MP3 et al. The sysadmins who keep the inter/extra-networks running get paid handsomely for dealing with piles of STUFF-they provide a service for a designated fee. Better services and function are worth paying for still!

Nicely put! How 'bout the image of Rob Malda washing down annother mouthful of KraftDinner with a gulp of MountainDew and sitting in his college dorm FOR HOURS writing code, checking and endlessly re-checking... Dues are paid in strange currency!

PNG- Also supports transprency! I've been using them as a workaround format for avoiding GIF. I'm still a bit foggy on the licensing issues surounding Conpuservs "own" image format, however PNG is much less 'lossy' than jpeg so I use it to archive things having transparency.

Holy Cow Kiddies!! Speaking as a Canadian, who enjoys a 'socialised' parlimentary style of government and all the economic pros and cons of a weaker dollar,I look at the current situatiom as baffling, but not unbelievable. Much like the early days of LSD in the sixties, whats becoming illegal Stateside is not necessarily UP HERE! (i.e. encryption technology and dev is alive and kicking up here where restriced in U.S and some developing natoins..) The Canadian model of freedom is somethin like this "Yer free to buy and sell anything that WE THE EDUCATED AND INFORMED DEEM SAFE FOR YER TENDER LITTLE SELVES...." that means that were protected from porn of varoius kinds, but completely free to have whatever kinds of sex we want.Paradoxical no? We Canucks look Stateside towards an ideal of freedom that our system isn't geared to deliver. Now it seems up to individual citizens to assert their beliefs.... and I thought the NAPSTER debachle was stupid..... Micro-Tallica Anyone?

Imagine having to reconcile releasing a program as extensive as Photoshop for two very different and verry inflexible platforms? Ive used it on both macs and pcs. Afer trying the GIMP on various Freenix boxes I was blown away by the power of modest Intel machines to generate amazing results fast. EventullY I downloaded the GIMPfor Windows and give it one of those good old A-B tsts like many folks do for MacvsWin Photoshop comparisons only this time,it was GIMP vs Photoshop! Well Imagine my surprise when the still-in-development version of GIMP ported to windows out performed Photoshop on many typical blur and rescale tasks! It smells like a case for versatile and extensible toolkit over corporate bloat.
