And what a horrible way to find out that crappy Vista has no telnet client installed by default. :( ... might have to try and find zmud (or was it gmud?) to try and see if a couple of my old haunts are still running

I am of the same opinion .... wait until they release a new revision, if it is better that the old one then buy one, if the old ones have features that you liked but are no longer present in the new revision then buy an older one off ebay

Also of course there is the different HD player formats which may produce a winner and a loser and I would prefer to have a player that actually has media readily available to play
