"Tricentennial" and "The Prince" by John Shirley (an early influence of William Gibson and Bruce Sterling) also have interesting coherent microwave weapons. These stories are featured in his "The Exploded Heart" compendium, which was printed by Eyeball Press in N.C.-but I think it may be out of print.
Not really- it's just they aren't highly visible.
The need for traditional HPC machines continues because there are some computational problems that do not scale well to hundreds of off-the-shelf clustered PC's (even clustered Alpha PC's.)
Hark! It's the call of the wild American-made auto bigot!
Before anyone attempts to argue with this guy, know this-this species will never willingly acknowledge any kind of design/research/manufacturing innovation to any country (or automaker) but his chosen favorite.
All vehicles from (insert country here) or made by(insert manufacturer here) were designed by graduates of the Ron Popeil Mail-Away University of Machine Design, styled by a committee at the Soviet Bureau of Kitchen Appliance Aesthetics or assembled at a trade school for hyperactive blind children armed with rivet guns.
Talking to these people is a waste of CO2-you could have a better conversation with a web-enabled Eliza program, and it would probably have better insight (pun intended) to the topic at hand.
Just remember, car bigots, like OS fetishists, come in all shapes and sizes, and are able to resist reality with equal vigor.
Rumor has it that John Frankenheimer has an ancient Mercedes 450SE 6.9 (a W116 chassis) with a nitrous kit in the trunk, that he actually drives around Beverly Hills in.
Oh, and Audi uses the ASF technology in the new A2, which will not be sold in the US, but will be in Europe, for less than 20K or so.
As an RI resident and longtime Hasbro observer, I would say that if past is prologue, Alan Hassenfeld will probably liquidate TSR's highly paid American game developers and replace them with Indonesian teenagers doing the same job for $0.35 a day.
With this in mind, look for AD&D 3rd Edition to have the same kind of effervescently nonstandard spelling and grammar that one is accustomed to seeing in the installation guides for off-brand video cards.

You Have Been Warned
AFAIK, 2 or three choices.
McLaren F1-not streetable in the US, but can be modified. Expect to pay over 600K, used of course.
Bugatti EB110 America-streetable in the US, nice leather interior, chassis in carbon fibre by Aerospatiale, expect to pay above 250K, used as above.
Did Riley & Scott ever build their road car, if so, that would be three....
I can't remember if the Porsche and Mercedes LeMans homolougation special were carbon. Does anyone know?
I loved that film.
