    fundemental flaws in the Spanish Economy, which despite its hurculean efforts towards reform still has some problems.

    In Spain - they probably feel that they have a right to work. A right to moderate-high levels of security and reasonable wages.

    I agree. The workers create wealth. The owners do not. Workers deserve (have the right) to a balanced relationship in their treatment/conditions as the bosses.

    There culture seems very healthy to me, who cares about their fucking 'economy' - the 'economy' is meant to serve the community. Not the other way around.

    I wont even touch the relationship that your comment has to American Imperialism, ignorance and myopia... needless to say - it is terribly self evident that your priorities and attitude betray your 'imbalance in perspective'.

    No. Peacful protesters were the other 99.999% who did not throw anything but where tear-gased and beaten anyway.

    I was in Quebec. I saw nary a broken window. There was no rioting. There were alot of cops gassing people - not alot of rioting.

    Dont feel so sure of yourself - you dont know what your talking about. You obviously are biased against the protesters - if not you could never justify the sheer bullshit perpetrated by the cops on the 25-30,000 or so who just wanted to chant near the fences... it was a police state. It was scary the way the police were acting, assaulting innocent bystanders & people singing, sitting and chanting.

    Bullshit - I was in Quebec. I saw ZERO acts of violence aimed at the cops. The most I personally saw was some kids pulling ads out of their 'place' in busshelters.

    I was on the other hand teargased. I saw people with broken limbs and split skin from rubber bullets. I *PERSONALLY* saw a person get clubbed by 3 cops and drug away by their hair and whatnot.

    Dont give me your bullshit... the police violence *FAR* outweighted the reported violence of some people. Furthermore, I personally feel that some of the molotov throwers (and others acting this way) were in fact *COPS* themselves - you cannot justify 4500 teargas cans without some kind of violence can you. Simply tearing down a fence doenst make quite the headlines as molotovs... hence someone made sure some were thrown. Besides - even if SOME people were throwning molotoves - that does *NOT* give a police force the justification to treat non-volent people the way they were, even if they were standing right beside the thrower.

    The cops in Quebec were animals.

    I dont agree:

    Redistribution and use in source and binary forms

    the 'use of source' permits me to modify. There is no purpose for source except to modify, outside of compiling. But 'redistribution in..binary forms' is already permitted. If you were permitted to use the source - but only compile - why not simply make the binaries available, the source is useless without the right to modify (think M$'s $hared $ource program)

    The 'Redistribution' is also permitted. If use of source is permitted && modification is permitted - how can redistribution of modified source *NOT* be permitted?

    All this aside, it is quite clear that the nature of the *BSD license allows people to take, modify, and redistribute *ANY WAY THEY PLEASE* code someone released as BSD. I Know he did not release this as BSD - but he should have known damn fucking well that if he were to be putting his code into a *BSD* project where 99% of the code is BSD, if his license was OPPOSED to the ideals there - he could/should/ought to have made it ABUNDANTLY clear. If the legaleese in his license was intended to mean what he asserts now, then he should have been *VERY* clear that this is what he meant - in the context of the rest of the project, the people he was dealing with and the level of attention paid to such issues Mr. Reed is really pushing his luck for people to accept the 'oh yeah, i also really meant this' crap he's pulling now.. if this is what he intended.. his license dosnt say it.

Im sure those who have seen is code, and *BSD users who use it, can attest to his brilliance - but it seems like he leaves a little to desire in the personality department. From the above link:

    Was someone supposed to wait for Reed's permission to speak? What is his problem? He knows (and we know) that there are *VERY* valid concerns about his 'clarification' at exactly what that means with regards to 'Free' or 'Open' Software - it is pretty clear that (at least) some discussion should take place, and that the *BSD projects need to assess their positions/exposer... but frankly, from his emails Ive read; Im betting that the *BSD projects need mr. reed's code *ALOT* more than his attitude. And it may be easier to replace the code than put up with this person who seems to have disdain for the rest of the *BSD community - based on his emails, Id say he needs to work on his people skills...

    Nice move. Anyone who dosnt know what socialism means will become alarmed when they here that. Socialism != Fascism. If you mean Fascism: Say it. Do not mis-apply Socialism when you dont know what the fuck you are talking about.

    Socialism does not require oppression. Socialism can enable libertarian-style freedom. Capialism is more like Fascism than Socialism. Capitalism enables the few (those with the means of production) to dictate to those without. Communism, or shared ownership of the property, will apply the property based on the desires of the people - which employ democratic freedom to make its decisions.

    Do not be confused by McCarthyism. Capitalism != Freedom && Communism != Fascism.

    I must give you credit though - you sure know how to use those loaded/confused terms to get an ignorant crowd on your side...

    Everyone should have a look at K-Meleon it is the Windows 'Galeon'; a light browser built around the gecko rendering engine from mozilla.

    I use it on all my Windows systems - its quite capable. And you can config it to report MSIE5 to this UK Gov. site.... but it dosnt work with "MSIE5". Does anyone know the *exact string* that IE reports as 'browser type'?

    Agreed - unfortunatley most people (here's my elitism) are not capable of understanding. They dont realize they are being manipulated by their televisions. That they REALLY REALLY want %whatevertheyhavebeenshownontelevison% is not a worthwhile goal. Additionally, like you said, they dont understand finances. They run up massive debt and end up wage slaves... but they sure drive 'nice*' cars.

    *they also dont realize that there is no value in cars outside of transportation - but they are so frail intellectually that they are easily told otherwise - hence your $50,000 BMW in the driveway of a factoryslave.

    exactly. Keep in mind that the Carpet-Bombing methods of franchises like Starbucks will run a loss, canabalize their OWN stores in order to achieve ubiquity - until all choices are removed. They can sustain losses because they are funded well enough to just obliterate everyone else.... this used to be called preditory marketing or dumping.. now its an acceptable corporate strategy.

    Or, if you prefer, go build your own kernel, your own version of the Gnu tools, your own version of your favourite window manager, and so on... Good luck...

    I believe allot of the people who write GPL code purposefully intend for people to use it *FOR FREE*. If you are a company - which is trying to make money for YOURSELF - then i say "good luck" to *you*! You can then try and sell someone else's gratis (libre) work. Dont try and shift focus onto users to make them feel obligated to support for-profit ventures.

    NOT EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD IS FOR PROFIT. Some people (myself) are actually interested in community. Some of us are interested in seeing an end to war, exploitation, poverty, despair, crime, ill-health and everything else that makes people unhappy. I have little interest in hording money and trinkets for myself. Your attitudes betray your priorities and your point-of-view. Is my Point-View 'realistic'? Yes. Either your desire is to make the world a better place or it is not. Making excuses about how difficult it is to eliminate the afore mentioned 'problems' because it is 'impossible' only serves to rest your own conscience... are you really fooling yourself - your not fooling me.

    Greed, selfishness, hubris and myopia are never excused as far as Im concerned.

    If an organization wants to be altruistic and rely on good-will they should be non-profit. Make a non-profit company, sell linux products/services and I will donate. If you believe and are interested in providing a accessible, public benefit - make yourself a non-profit. If you are looking for 'commercial success and profit' - swim with the sharks - you'll get no sympathy from me. There is no reason a Non-Profit cannot sell a product to support itself - just like the goose-stepping capitalists. If you want to support the efforts of a for-profit you like - buy there product*.

    Of course, I'm just a tool of one of the largest Linux companies, so what do I know. I write a few lines of (bad) GPL code, I also contribute by advocating, submit bug reports etc. I do what I can. I run linux for the freedom - it aligns with my politics. It also aligns with my desires technically. Your comments above are very trollish...

    *The only issue I have with that is the unnecessary waste associated with creating and moving a 'product' which is only a symbol of the support you have, which has no utilitarian value and simply ends up causing pollution - the planet then pays for it also in landfills, streams etc etc which are the Non-Captured costs associated with everything you buy, but I digress.

    Welcome to Marketroid Speak 101. Mr. Kim, if you hadnt noticed, there is a bit of a 'backlash' against brand advertising. It is representative of a world-wide movement of anti-corporate-globalization. Read 'culture jamming' or 'no logo' - not as an invitation to devise more subversive/cutting edge brand image plans. Marketroid speak like the above repulses me. It very literally insults me.

    Give us (your target audience for a device like this / first-adopter-tech-fetishists) a little less advertising speak and alot more tech. Give us the benefit of the doubt - challenge us. Keep the lowest-common-denominator sales ploy for a more appropriate audience... or please for their sake, drop the advertising and try and educate them.

    Why would Google make this request? I would guess to defend themselves legally - too pull a CYA in a sense. But it doesnt make sense. Surely I can post to news servers WITHOUT using Deja. If I post to news.someisp.com it is available to DejaGoogle users - WITHOUT the AYBABTU-License... so, here Google has the AYBABTUGoogle posts mingled w/ the 'other' posts.

    Now, Ive never used Deja - so it may be more than a interface to the NNTP network that I am accustomed to using w/ PAN and whatnot*.

    How does Google possibly need to make this AYB-Style Land Grab when it wont do them any good because the rest of us can go on posting our aol-suckzors libel-insipiring posts from elsewhere && google serves them up to their users JUST AS IF THEY HAD BEEN POSTED via DejaGoogle....

    This dosnt make sense*. Google dosnt appear to gain much by doing this - except a shitload of pissed off users wondering how the heck they get off making demands of the users who are supposed to be 'customers.'

Sorry your country didn't get it (did your country happen to be involved in inventing the internet?), but your country DOES have complete and total control over it's own two letter TLD (one less letter to type than .com!). Use that.

    TLDs are unlimited. There is no resource shortage that will hold supply low during high demand that will respond w/ high price for verisign or (ICANN's $whore$ of choice at-the-time).

    WTF is going on? Cluefull people know this - but who the fuck is making these decisions? Where the hell is the REALITY to this mess?

    The US Dept. of Commerce needs to step aside - and give responsibility to a democratically elected, publicly funded (international participation), NGO affiliated with the United Nations (or some similarly respected body).

    The DNS is *NOT* a place for profit - it just doesn't make sense - it costs virtually nothing to run, nothing to expand, nothing nothing nothing (except hardware and bandwidth - but im sure we can manage to support the DNS if all vested interests participate (like the users, ISPs, governments, domain 'owners' etc).

    I am literally beside myself that Verisign can act this way with an 'essential public service' like DNS.

    They are *NOT* breaking the law.

    This is a simple case of a misguided, ignorant, and corrupt system. There is no law that says 'you may not potentially provide a means that someone may use to violate copyright law.'

    If there *was* such a law cars (used to transport illegal copies of works), houses (used to store illegal copies of works), and pencils (used to make illegal copies of works) would be targeted.

    This matches the simple 'hammer as a B&E tool' model. Aimster may be used to aid in an illegal activity by a third party. It may also be used for legal activity. Banning something because it *may* be used illegally is dangerous - it violates presumption of innocence... and it is a *VERY* slippery slope America is descending. You are making things illegal based on their function with regards to enterprise - not based on humanistic moral concepts. Laws should not restrict individuals for the sake of profit. Ever.

    200 years from now America is going to be a perverse place; one described in countless cyberpunk novels where cyberspace is a world where good guys use illegal tech and run from the authorities.
