What, do you work there? It's called "advertising" or "goodwill." Sort of like how Budweiser fires people all the time and then sponsors sporting events. People will remember that kick ass LAN party they went to, and hopefully associate it with EA. And here's the kicker, maybe even buy a game. (Of course they will, EA publishes like half the games now it seems:))
I hear that, I am always amazed when I'm playing with people who complain that the nearly nonexistent lag of a small LAN party caused them to get killed, or some bot was cheating. I only wish I was "one" enough with the game to sense that. I'm more the guy going "dude, you knocked my guy's skull right into the lava! COOL!"
I remember reading something, maybe fiction, maybe not, about people who were working on making a computer program that would work on creating hit pop songs. The software would learn by receiving feedback on how successful its previous attempts at making songs were, and what parts people liked most in the songs. I could see that happening. Not to slight the work it takes to make techno music, but if it started being made solely by machines, you might not notice. Heck, maybe some of it already is.
I love how icee says that he's a 20 year old, sitting around, eating pizza. Then a bit further down the chat log, he starts in with this long diatribe about how back in the day, when he was "in the scene," things were different, and there was respect, and a bunch of other holier than thou stuff. Wow, those 20 years made him pretty wise, huh? I'm 21 now, and was following the hacking scene for a bit as a teenager, and it wasn't much different. Except people were using DOS instead of Win98. Big deal. It cracks me up to see how much bragging some of these dumbasses do.
Wow, that's great that Dish TV is putting linux in their boxes! My family used to be subscribers until our house burned down, but we'll definitely resubscribe... DISH TV is definitely the way to go, it beats cable by a long shot, and we didn't even have a decent aim at the satellite, so if it rained too hard, we were screwed. Well worth the money.
Note the foot icon next to the story. That signifies HUMOR in Slashdot. It's a joke.

Believe me, when it comes to an unbiased review, one can always count on JeffK's writing. Plus, the font size is easy on the eyes.
