  1. Re:When Consoles Become Free Reign on Atari 2600 Lord of the Rings Discovered · · Score: 1

I don't think that's the case, Nintendo has been going after distributors of NES ROMs since at least 1996, if I remember correctly. You couldn't buy NES systems then. (Except used of course, but you can buy used Civil War muskets, too) I wish the law was like this, but I think that the reason Nintendo goes after these people is because with a trademark or copyright, you have to enforce your trademark/copyright or else you face some sort of danger of losing the right to defend it. This is the reason that Metallica, the band, had to sue some cosmetics company to prevent them from selling some makeup that was called Metallica.

I think the reasoning behind the legal maneuvering is the same, but I might be wrong.

I'm going to go totally off-topic here, but it's nice to see someone else who smokes, but isn't addicted. I tell people that I control when i do and don't smoke. They're always like, "Sure, pal, whatever." But then I don't smoke for a few months, and therefore break what is commonly known as cigarette addiction. Thanks for adding to my theory.

I picked up Sega Smash Pack for $10 new a few days ago at Best Buy. It's a bunch of Genesis games set up to work on Dreamcast, plus Virtua Cop 2 and a game which kicks ass called Sega Swirl. You get Sonic, Golden Axe, and a bunch of others. I really only play Golden Axe and Sega Swirl right now though. But still, at $10, it is a good investment in fun.

That brings up a good point. I was looking for a new job the other day, and saw all sorts of jobs I could fill experience-wise, but they required a BS in Computer Science. I've got an Associate's in PC Networking. These jobs are things like supporting users in Windows, PC troubleshooting, etc. Not stuff that requires programming knowledge other than basic programming comprehension. I'm not sure the people who write up the job requirements know what it is that is being taught in CS classes.

  16. Crashing consoles on Sega and Sony to Link Game Consoles Via Internet · · Score: 3
I hope this doesn't lead to unstable consoles. It seems that the trend has been that when console manufacturers start doing things like this, the stability of the console goes downhill. I'm a little worried about the XBox for that reason. I like consoles because they're guaranteed to work with all software made for them, unlike PCs. I don't want to have to troubleshoot my Dreamcast's network connection.

Hopefully Sega and Sony will spend a hell of a lot of effort debugging this and not rush it out to market.

For doing your own streaming broadcast legally, check out Live365.com. You can either upload mp3s to their server and have them handle the bandwidth, or if you want more control, you can do it yourself and use them as more of a promotion/legality sort of thing. Though, I'm not sure how much support they give you legally if you are controlling the whole broadcast on your own PC. If you use theirs, you have to agree to a set of rules that basically say that you can't play more than a set number of songs from one album in a row, and some other things. They're registered with ASCAP and whoever else manages that sort of thing.

I guess what I mean is that in order for theaters to make the jump from today's projectors to a big, expensive computer system, is a reason. Maybe something like what Lucasfilm did to get people to go with DTS, where only theaters that conformed to the set standard could show the movie. This would be even more expensive of a switch, so I have my doubts that many theaters would switch equipment. I figure most theaters would just not show the CG movie.

It still irks me to see what amounts to little more utter racism on your site, even more so from someone with aspirations towards immortality.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it racism, more like nationalism. Canadians aren't a different race than people of the United States, they just live within different boundaries. The guy just feels that Taiwan is owned by China and should be included in its borders.
  21. Re:I dare say... on Could Square Re-Dub the "Final Fantasy" Movie? · · Score: 1

Not for a heck of a long time. The movie studios would have to send their own projectors out for every movie they make. It would be too costly to send out a little computer. Don't kid yourself, the majority of movies will always feature real people. We identify with movie stars, that's why there's shows like Entertainment Tonight on.
