Only one provider must suck big time. But you would think that there would be room for at least two competing against each other. Unless they cooperate on price:)
It's funny, but 6 years ago I envied the US for their broadband speeds and pricing. 3 years ago, my canadian broadband surpassed the US in terms of pricing, and speed. At my place down in Florida in Pasco Co., I have the choice of...cable(brighthouse), or dial up. Their offering is 10/1 service@51/mo. I wouldn't say that an aircard or tethering is an option considering both are cost prohibitive even at $51/mo. Up here in Canadaland I now pay $42/mo for 25/1, which will be getting bumped to 50/10 with no cap.
Things are rather broken down in the US in terms of competition right now. And it has to do with over-regulation and crony capitalism protecting incumbents. Something we're very familiar with up here in Canada.
So look at the map of racist tweets as suggested in the summary.
That's some pretty good cherry picking, I have seen more open bigotry and racism from democrats in the last 8 years than I have in the last 12 from republicans. Then again, this does follow the standard mantra it's not racist if a democrat does it.
Beh. I'm a fiscal conservative, and to be honest unless you guys get your house in order there won't be much left. It's pretty interesting to watch from up here in Canada. Though never mind that the democrats idea of "cutting to balance" in that case was raising spending by 8%. Sorry the GOP had the right idea of blackballing the democrats on that one.
But hey, you've got all of a month and a half until the largest tax hike in history comes to fruition and kills the poorest economic recovery since the great depression comes into play. Personally from a currency traders pov, you guys have been in a depression since '08ish and all Obama has done has prolong any type of recovery by tinkering like hell with the markets. Using QE only does one thing though, make me more money.
Yeah, because taxes are SOOOOOooo much lower in Canada and the EU than in the U.S.
Well...actually, yeah in parts of Canada they are. And if the $7b in taxes goes through at the start of next year happen, I'm sure those of us up in Canada will see American companies flocking to Canada.
Peh. I trust the BBC about as much as I trust Pravda. They like to memory hole stories that don't fit their agenda after they've been published(Nov 9/12). You hear about the story about the luxury homes in the Palestinian territories that the Beeb did? Probably not. Because it was up for all of an hour before memory holed. It was a rather good bit of journalism they even included pictures of the overflowing markets and all the rest.
And when I say they scrubbed it, they scrubbed it. It was up and down so fast that not even google crawled it. But,somebloggers did catch it.
Dude, do you think energy companies would be trying to squeeze gas out of rocks i.e. fracking if oil wasn't running out? Face it, oil has peaked. Since 2000 how have gas prices been? Any wars in oil rich regions? Hmmm, yeah, seems like this oil thing could be on the way out...
Are you kidding? With fracking the price of oil has done nothing but decline, hell up here here in Canada we keep coming up with new technologies for both oilsand(or tar sand if you prefer) reclamation, and for fracking. In fact, fracking has become so good that the price for natural gas has bottomed right out of the market. It's so cheap, that it's cost prohibitive to do anything but cap wells and let them lie until they're needed or the price rises. Even CN(one of two of the largest national railways) is looking at retrofitting all of the diesel engines to run on natural gas. Used to also be that the price BBL for oil reclamation from tar/oilsands had to be around $60, it's around $41 now. And I haven't even touched on shale.
Oh if Canada dumped itself off the market, we'd be paying less. Then again, considering the amount of oil we sell to the US peh. Oil hasn't peaked, the price has peaked to a level to which is bearable in the economic situation, but it's still too prohibitive for actual growth. Not forgetting that the price would be lower, if it wasn't for OPEC, they're artificially limiting output to inflate the price.
Doesn't matter, they should subpoena his ass. This doesn't make the information in your head go away, or any less valid. Over all, it seems like the underside of the Benghazi bus is getting pretty crowded with all the people being thrown under it.
That's alright, at the price SSD's are falling through the floor. By next year I'll be able to swap my mechanical drives to SSD's and be paying the same price. Hell, just this week a store was selling 480GB SSD's for $189.
I live in Canada and bought a 2TB 3.5 7200RPM drive(seagate) for $66 preflood. I've got the receipt sitting in front of me, along with the 1TB for $43 that I picked up for a portable.
And its worth every penny. Seriously does no one think big anymore?
Really? Okay let's go with that. And look at the fiscal situation in Ontario. We have around a 8% unemployment rate, some parts of the province are around 15%. Businesses are leaving in droves because of energy prices here. Mainly electricity. Never minding that by your post, apparently you don't live here in various parts Canada, your average "solar project" won't even recover 40% of it's cost within it's lifetime. That's how little sunlight we have factored in over a year. Nor does wind, which again is highly fickle. In some parts of the country the winds are too high, in other parts there is no consistent winds at all.
For us, the best solutions are nuclear and geothermal.
But renewables don't work! Subsidies for oil companies! Drill baby drill etc.
They don't work.
Here in Ontario(Canada), it's cost electricity users $20B in subsidies so far, and is costing the average rate payer right now about 3c/KWH on top of their electricity bill on ToU billing at peak. By 2016, Ontario is projected to be at 16c/KWH one of the highest in North America. This is all because of subsidies, or the FiT(Feed it Tariff) program. Where utilities get paid at a higher rate than they can sell for. Usually between 40-60c/KWH.
But hey, look above. A german mentioned that they're paying 0.45c/KWH right now. Enjoy that screw over, though he didn't mention that nearly 800k germans can no longer afford electricity and have been cut off. Though the article is considered dated from June of this year, and it's figured to be over 1 million germans now.
The stock market was going to tank no matter who won? Really? That's why there was an exceptional late day rally when the exit polls showed that romney was winning? Nope, I'm guessing you're not either in finance, or involved in finance even at a casual level. This strongly reminds me of the NDP win here in Ontario, where the TSX(Canada's national exchange) dropped 250pts(about 3% of it's value at the time), and the provinces bond rating was cut two points. And people were saying "don't worry, it was going to happen anyway...it has nothing to do with the government elected..."
Oh sure, they'll pick up. I'm guessing somewhere around about 2022. After all, you've got 7 trillion in tax hikes coming, plus another 2 odd trillion not tied to that to pay for obamacare. Yep, gonna make for businesses to hire people with that one. Enjoy the government you voted for, and don't run to Canada. Fix your own damn mess.
Really? Now that businesses know for sure what's happening they're reacting to it. I'm guessing that the serious losses from the stock market is just a "political statement" as well, and the dumping from the derivatives market too. Never mind that there was a mass filing of over 1300 of 50+ or more job layoffs last month alone, totaling 130k+
Yep all political statements. Especially when team obama has come out saying we're gonna start taxing even more. Weak economy, and we're gonna raise taxes!
Taking a look around today, there seems to be an awful lot of businesses laying people off after the Obama victory. Well you get the government you deserve. So, enjoy the new America I guess. Even worse than the previous one.
Right, let me tell you how this has worked out in this place called Ontario. In a country called Canada, so far it's cost tax payers $20B, for those said solar panels. Because of a FiT program, or Feed in Tariff system. This puts Ontario on track to have the price at 16c/KWH by 2016. And because it's paid at a premium, to offset the cost the actual cost is passed along to consumers on their electric bill. Now let me tell you about Germany where this has also happened. Where the price per KWH is now climbing up towards 14c/KWH on the low side.
There's happy fun time, then there's reality where solar panels don't work. By the way, speaking of solar panels. Today was the first time in nearly three weeks that there was more than half a day of solid sunlight here.
Oh I don't know about that, I have a feeling that DNT works fine, the problem is advertisers not respecting it more than anything as we all know. I have a feeling that the Chromium will implement something that makes DNT work...properly.
Funny enough, that whole privacy thing? People do. Enough so that various privacy commissioners do get involved like they do here in Canada and Germany, a few other places too. And in most cases they're not toothless either. Maybe that's just an American thing.
Is he also ushering in an era of more nuclear power plants to ensure that there's power availability too? Or will people be paying 16c/KWH or higher once these things start banging away on the grid.
George W. Bush will forever be known as the President who first sanctioned torture in the USA.
Don't worry, Obama will be the first president who sanctioned his own private kill list and suspended various parts of the constitution by executive fiat.
Well, I guess the US should enjoy the ride into Greece. Don't come running to Canada when shit hits the fan.
And you really can't touch Sandra Fluke since Rush Limbaugh decided to react to her with his bombastic vulgarity. Not that you didn't get the point of her position, but hey, great show turning things over to the one guy who could show how vile and despicable the right-wing really is. The inability of so many on the right to repudiate his conduct is even more telling.
Government out of my bedroom. Government pay for my birth control.
Logical disconnect? Yeah, I'd say so. So, you want to be a responsible adult? Be a responsible adult.
Only one provider must suck big time. But you would think that there would be room for at least two competing against each other. :)

Sure.
In Soviet Russia, State owns YOU! Applies to a lot of countries that nationalize their industries you know like Venezuela.

Obama is willing to compromise, as long as he gets everything he wants.
That's not a compromise, that's a dictatorship. Sadly the ignorant masses who voted for "give me free stuff" believe it.
Peh. I trust the BBC about as much as I trust Pravda. They like to memory hole stories that don't fit their agenda after they've been published(Nov 9/12). Damned if that isn't true. If you figure in food, fuel, and electricity up here in Canada. You get away from that 2.2% inflation and it becomes 13.9%.
That's alright, at the price SSD's are falling through the floor. By next year I'll be able to swap my mechanical drives to SSD's and be paying the same price. Hell, just this week a store was selling 480GB SSD's for $189.

Canadian men don't need that "extra help" comes from those cold winters, it helps with the training.

I know where there are 3 pay phones are within a block of me. Then again I live in Canada, and they're still common in smallish communities still.
I had to comment on this.
