The suits that sell this stuff figure that internet appliances aren't targeted to tech people; they're made for tech people's grandparents. THEY certainly don't have ethernet in their home. There is simply not enough demand for ethernet, especially when companies are developing new, unproven products.
I do think, however, that broadband popularity is growing fast enough for suits to start offering ethernet as an option, especially for products on the drawing board. SB
