    People are resistant to change and that resistance seems to grow with age. Educating my father on how much he would be saving had no effect, when I went ahead and replaced them myself, he nearly had a aneurysm. He got a huge grin when he opened next months electric bill thou.

    Each state get one Commissioner appointed by the elected government of the State. Germany has one vote and so does Malta. Not a Democracy but very fair to all member states, much like the idea behind the U.S Senate. In fact U.S Senators were appointed by States until the 17th amendment was passed. To ensure that smaller States don't have too much power, legislation must be approved by the European Parliament which has representation based on population, just like the U.S Congress

    Oh that's nothing. Uneven access to pre-k in the U.S, especially for the those of lower socio-economic status means that many kids are already falling behind before they even start school. The U.S is nearly at the top of high-school drop-out rates among the developed nations

    Most developed countries have a tuition free public university system for all students who qualify for entrance. They do this because they want their brightest and hardest working to get educated not just those that can afford it. This is issue is too important for the long-term prosperity of the country, it can't be left up to the whims of billonaries

    The problem is that the definition of "fake news" seems to have changed for incorrect facts or biased viewpoints to "anything that contradicts my beliefs or I simply don't like"

  20. Welfare is used as an umbrella term for all kinds of government assistance programs.Including things like SNAP benefits, Section 8 or public housing. Medicaid, TANF, SSI, etc. Go on pretending we are dumb and talking about some program that ended 20 years ago

  21. Welfare fraud are cases where the recipient is lying about having low income or lack of assets. This is totally different from the far more prevalent welfare abuse, where recipients don't actually try to look for work as they are supposed to under the law, content to live a meaningless existence with the meager assistance that welfare provides.

    I do note that the law should recognize such things as full-time care for a sick or disabled family member as unpaid-work, the system is actually saving money by not having these people in long-term rehab facilities

    The U.S also has a low birth rate which we were canceling out thru immigration. This is going to stop if Conservatives have their way. Ever though about how we are going to pay for all those retired baby-boomers when there are less and less young people to work? You don't have to wonder, just look at Japan. A dying society with a stagnant economy and a debt % twice as high as ours

    I agree with you on banning plastic food packaging however the ideal packaging material is aluminum not glass. Like glass it is %100 recyclable but its lighter and more durable which means huge savings in transport costs and pollution.
