empathy is a powerful human emotion. Humans don't feel empathy towards inanimate objects however they do for other living creatures (at least the not-scary ones.) The more similar to humans the more powerful the emotion is. A human looking robot begging for its life would likely invoke very strong feelings of empathy
I agree that they can strong-arm the brokers they deal with directly (most likely they already require them to keep meticulous records) but that's why I left them out of my "how" list. Nestle or the brokers will not have a very easy time convincing hundred's if not thousands of farms and shipping compnies to eat the expense of keeping timely and up-to-date records on a database that offers no benefits to them whatsoever.
The UPC example is not a very good one. UPC barcodes offered benefits to everyone and had a simple chicken-or-the-egg problem. This is not, integrated records offer no benefits to anyone but Netslte,Walmart,Kraft and that's why they still haven't been implemented
I'm not quite sure how you Nestele is going to get farmers shipping companies, local stores to spend scarce resources diligently updating the blockchain, especially since it doesn't integrate with their accounting systems.
You took the statement too literally. Comparing a single piece of machinery to a single human is obviously idiotic and in the context of this story we are not even talking about industrial robots but rather machines like auto-attendant. I don't know about you but I always hit 0 the minute one of those infernal things tries to waste my time
When automating the question that should be asked is
Can a machine outperform a human
If you are asking "Can we save a buck by replacing humans" it is likely the decision will backfire and cost you money in the end. Just ask Elon and his new Tent factory
Unlike American football, soccer has only a limited number of allowed replacements. Taking the player out for tests means either effectively punishing the injured players team or allowing for free replacements of injured players in which case they will start taking dives just for that
Einstein did some of his most insightful work while making a living as a patent specialist. Don't blame "**FUNDING**" for the inability of all the alternative theories to come up with testable predictions. If the theory doesn't have obvious flaws and has a testable prediction, it will eventually gain enough respect from the theorist and enough curiosity from experimental scientists. Even Einstein's groundbreaking "special relativity" was mostly ignored at first
Millenials grew up during one the longest economic downturn in history and have the heaviest student-debt burden ever. They are worst off financially then their parents at their age and are very likely to never be as wealthy as their parents. They bust their ass in the "gig economy" for little pay and no benefits and yet you consider them "entitled" because they prefer their cup of coffee differently then yours. Guess what, you are the entitled generations
The aim is to keep you from dying faster or living what time you have left in a significantly worst condition because the "treatment" is dangerous and ineffective. Just ask all the idiots that went to countries with lax oversight to get themselves injected with the last "miracle cure," stem-cells
ZTE broke an International embargo and then blatantly lied about implementing the remedies it had agreed to. There is a general unease with China's grown economic and military power but ZTE's case had absolutely nothing to do with any of that.
Chinese companies need to learn that being cozy with the Chinese Communist party can't protect them in the world stage
If they raise pay, much of it is taxed away by payroll taxes (SS, SSDI, unemployment tax, etc) and is taxable income for the employee. Many of Walmart's employees qualify for EITC, and higher pay will push them out of that bracket. For every dollar extra that Walmart pays, about 60 cents ends up in the employee's pocket.
Tuition assistance avoids these problems. A dollar in is a dollar out.
Or it could be a lot cheaper to give a "temporary bonus" to 0.45% of their workforce (according to their top enrollment expectations) while fending off calls for higher wages because all the employees have to do for a higher salary is "get an education on their dime."
Not to mention that unlike payroll, this is very likely a tax write-off for the company
Women or men for that matter, don't want to go for STEM fields in *Algeria* because the only job prospects are as a NYC cab-driver. Students go for a STEM degrees because you got rejected for coveted fields like law and medicine
The upgrade could easily and cheaply be done if you just shut off the system for 6 months. The problem is that it is being done on a system that continues to run 24/7. When you are working in tunnels with live wires and incoming trains, you need people to "stand around" doing nothing more then ensuring safety
Nobody starts off smoking a pack a day or mainlining heroin. The nature of addiction is that a progressive process. As a so called "social smoker" you are extremely high risk for progression. You might think that it can't happen to you because you are "strong willed" and "have been doing this for a long time" or a million other reasons but I can assure you that nobody starts using a addictive substance thinking the addiction is going to progress to the point that it endangers their health and well-being
personal experience is just anecdotal evidence.Extrapolating from a tiny source of friends/family offers no great insight and can be horribly misleading
The U-6 number is highly miss-leading, in-fact the biggest share is parents (mostly women) who have decided to forgo salaried employment for the exhausting, thankless job of giving the best learning opportunities to their children

Unfortunately it is and cryptocurrency mining is just making things slightly worst

It doesn't work. Bigot!
"You are either the stupidest human I have ever met, or you are a sub-human piece of shit."
Typical bigot. When faced with differing opinions, insult.
You are a bigot for calling me an idiot for a stated opinion and for continuing on with personal insults.

However I will not tolerate your bigotry. Calling me stupid because of a stated opinion is completely unacceptable
Immigration and hatred for the newcomers is absolutely nothing new in the country
Not to mention the burning question of why aren't we dumping this stuff on Iran, NK, Afghanistan

Obama should have invented a magical accounting method where healthcare spending pays for itself, like the Republicans did for tax-cuts

Subways in 3rd world countries are built for the benefit of the elite. Nobody is riding the Pyongyang Metro line to get to their minimum wage job
