Over at mitosis.com we're about to launch a custom 'groups' system which gives users their own blog, user management tools, etc. etc. The interesting part is that we're also introducing a fully integrated torrents section along with it.
An average visitor will view the 'torrents' page and be able to search, sort and/or download all the freeware, open source and copyright free/allowed 'community torrents' while a mitosis member that belongs to a group (or multiple groups) will view the torrents page and see all those torrents as well as the torrents posted to the private group they belong to.
With this system, a user is rewarded for social networking with an increased torrent library. Plus, a user can view and search the group info pages to find groups with shared interests....users can send join request or a group admin can send individual invites to users to join their group.
NOTE: Mitosis membership is free however there is a fee if you want to setup your own private group. We would rather do it this way then become slaves to online advertisers. (no offense slashdot);)
Oh, you can view the beta at http://www.mitosis.com/sections/torrents/
You probably won't be able to do or see much but as I said, we're very close launch so feel free to check back.
OnBeyondBeing, I'd be happy to answer any questions you have if you wanted to use mitosis.com in your study....You can contact me through the website.
My company was sub contracted by IBM for Sony so I had to fly to the main Sony building in New Jersey (which sucked already), then as a lead developer I had to review a years worth of spaghetti code in a small room, day after day, with no windows and 5 Indian guys who stunk like the most potent mixture of curry and B.O. you could imagine....I actually lost weight because lunchtime would come and I'd have no appetite.
The Indian guys were cool but man did they stink! That was the worst condition I had to endure.
I remember the days when I would treasure any new content and what I read or saw had more of an impact on me. Now information is just catalogued in my head and I feel this strange need to gather more all the time.
I think the attention span problem is more widespread than just us slash-heads. People are now being inundated with constant 'quick clips' and cut scenes for every television show and commercial...and don't even get me started on modern day movie trailers. There are so many cutscenes in trailers now that I literally have to close my eyes in the theatre to avoid having an epileptic seizure.
How can our brains avoid being desensitized with so much information being thrown at us all the time?
Am I the only one who is completely sick of unbelievable heroin pseudo hero's? Buffy sucks, the movie sucked and the series sucks even worse. Angel sucks. Take one beautiful babe, put a barcode on her neck, do some trick photo kicks and you've got a series. bla!
I know women need role models and that's fine but why do they have to try and reach everybody between the age of 16 and 80, male or female?
Don't you remember Dukes of Hazard and Charlies Angels? Separate the male/female fantasies and you're in business. Try to blend them together and you get Star Trek Voyager. Need I say more?
I will say more. I think it all started with Laura Croft...but that's just me and I'm just right.
I'm assuming that the filtering is looking for specific data such as mp3's, avi's, etc. This raises the question, what about downloading snippits such as those on cdnow.com? Exactly how much of a song or video constitutes a copyright infringement?
I've read the article and it's obvious that gnutella cannot work in the same fashion that napster does. This is a blow to those who've become dependant on the mind-numbing ease that napster affords but what about changing the rules slightly.
What about using private gnutella networks (clubs). Password protected servers that hold a set number of users.
I've been planning on creating a system up for this ever since gnutella.30.

First thing, do NOT send them a copy of your credit card. There are usually 4 numbers above the imprinted digits. Knowing these numbers can help credit card thieves use your card and/or make changes to your credit account.
I have a merchant account for online credit card transactions and the problem that companies face in the U.S. is the large amount of chargebacks and fraudulant charges from overseas. In fact, I have a list of over 70 country codes that I was given by the bank and advised to block entirely. All of Italy being one of those countries. The UK was not on the list but I can see how some banks may require some special authentication.
Also, I just found out that Ibill, one of the major third party credit card processors, just lost the ability to use American Express for all adult related websites due to high number of chargebacks and fake charges.
As for companies sharing info, I don't think that's the way to go.

You know, I posted a review of the exeeem beta (along with screenshots) about 2 weeks but it was rejected. Hopefully this post will make it through.

P.S. No registration required.

I don't think you can say that until Doom 3 comes out, but I do get you're point. The current engine seems to be at it's limits.
