  1. Re:Big Deal on Europe Net Users Now Outnumber US/Canada · · Score: 1

Not accurate weeny, look at it this way - even the homeless in America have internet access - all public libraries have banks of computers with a minimum of a T1 ( in minnesota, it's a T3) these are free for anyone to use. Further more, all schools in minnesota are wired as well as the class rooms themselves. I know of no businesses here that are not wired, including all government agencies.

THere is no way this is accurate, based on a simple analsys in this way, per capita usage in the US is most likely 1.5 as opposed to the Euro .5.

Look at it this way, politicos in the US are arguing over a 5.6% unemployment and calling it "terrible" while in Europe, you have had an endimic 12% unemployment rate for nearly 20 years now - if that happened in America, there would be armed revolt in the streets.

You will never ever equal the US in terms of any measure of wealth, we will always be better off then you - assuming that the neo-liberal-communists in America (democrats) are kept at bay, anyway.

Europe's only hope of equalling the US is the lame assed kyoto treaty, which would in effect let them compete against the US with both our (figurative) hands tied behind our backs, even then we would most likely win. :-)

this is because the market here is saturated, given the US only has HALF as many people as Europe has, (Morons) it means we have twice the per capita usage as you Europe.

Because Europe is a back ward socialist state, rather then a market economy, you will always lag behind the US. Just compare your jobless rate and rate of pay to the US - your pathetic.

Look at it this way, the US has to quietly manage Europe for 57 years now - the longest period of peace in Europe's history, because you werent even smart enough to do it for yourselves until we taught you how. :-)

  3. This is a no brainer on Digital Video Capture and High Frame Rates? · · Score: 1

Switching to film in this instance is a no brainer guys, it runs a long the lines of "simplicity is beauty"

In other words, your looking for a kludge when there is no need for one - at all, the film does it, it does it better then digital (a point of light in the sky, i.e. a star or astroid is not the same as a car crashing into a wall or a bullet piercing glass) the film does it waaaay cheaper and better then you could possibly duplicate it with digital right now, so why bother? Because you might be able to? Someday, maybe.

I spent 3 years at the U of Minnesota's college of art and design, studying film - all aspects of it. Film, simply put, has a quality that digital can not touch, it holds life, digital, mean while, looks, feels and tastes artificial. Not to mention that there is no where near the depth of field in digital right now as opposed to real film.

To put this another way, if I choose to scan a 35 mm print for reproduction (instead of going back to the darkroom) to even get close to the quality of that darkroom print I must scan at a minimum of 600X600 dpi, sometimes (my relisys scanner can do realtime 9000 dpi- not software interpolation) higher- for an 8x10 print, this means (equivalent of one frame, if you will) a file of between 80 and 120 MB - go ahead and do that at 12,000 FPS, aint gonna happen in this lifetime.

Don't believe me ? Then ask your self why high end Photography isn't done digitally. Digital pics are only used to set the shots up - not for the real thing.

One further point - if your studying the impact of a bullet on this years replacement for kevlar, or what happens when a 80mm round hits an abrahms tank, you not only NEED SUPER HI RES, but you sure as hell don't want to look at it at 128x128 - thats what an instamatic from kodak used.

Problem here is, none of you know anything about film.

You never have fewer rights under state law then you do under Federal Law, the US constitution always trumps state constitutions, ALWAYS. In cases where the US constitution gives rights to the States to enact law on their own, it is implicit that they may not remove rights guranteed under the US Constitution.

Furthermore, this is not a state law matter in the slightest bit - it is clearly a Federal Case in that it involves Interstate Commerce, as opposed to Intra-State Commerce, one of the first Items on the agenda of the Constitutional convention was the problem of who should regulate Interstate commerce, this was deemed by all to be of neccessity the Fed's domain, otherwise we were in danger of ending up like the then (and until only 3 years ago) Euro trash, with states imposing duties and such on goods and services provided by vendors from a neighboring state.

As per the rest of it, it has long been held that unless the computer is yours, you have no expectation of privacy - ergo, they have no basis for a hopeful Appeal on the Federal level, and the Washington State Supreme court has no jurisdiction.

As per the argument this is "International Law". It is'nt, we, the US, are a Soveriegn Nation and have no duty to let criminals breaking the law here in the US go to be tried by an International Court, quite the contrary, our government has a duty to the Citizens of the US to protect them from the criminals - just as it has a duty to protect us from middle east assholes, and DOES NOT need the approval of some Euro trash to do so.

It's simple, state and local jurisdictions have no say over anything that involves interstate communications - such as the internet.

For more clarification, if you steal a car and drive it around the city it was stolen in, even the state it was stolen in, then it is a "local" crime and the county/state authorities will prosecute you for it.

If, however, you steal it and decide to drive it to the neighboring state, it is now "interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle" and subject to Federal Jusrisdiction.

SInce the ISP's pipes are connected to the world at large, it becomes a matter of "interstate" and hence the Feds. This is why the States have thus far not been able to able to (nor will they ever be allowed to) regulate ecommerce, etc. The states are prohibited by the constitution from attempting any regulation of "interstate commerce" this is strictly- and for good reason, a Federal matter.

Thus it matters not whether they own the cable modems or not, what matters is that took, without due payment, bandwidth (which is a commodity) which is not local in nature but, in fact, international in nature. Hence the reason why it is theft, you moron chips, not simply a breach of contract.
