  1. Norton Internet Security on Is There An Effective Way To Kill Banner Ads? · · Score: 1

For the best bang for your buck on Windows, Norton Internet Security wins hands down. It blocks banner ads, allows you to add your own custom html strings to block, lets you block Javascript, Applets, ActiveX controls, animated gifs, referrers, cookies, user agent, and popup windows on sites.

Not only that, but if you want to block cookies from yahoo.com but not mail.yahoo.com, you can do that (and all of the above listed).

http://www.symantec.com/sabu/nis is where to find it

  2. doubleclick on Failed Dot-Coms Selling Private Info · · Score: 1

The article makes mention of doubleclick and turning cookies off. Simple solution (for those of us able): if you have a firewall, configure it to block all communication with doubleclick.net and 208.211.225.89.

The c:\con\con, which also works with c:\nul\nul, and any other combination of the dos devices will work on NT4, but not in w2k... You will have to call M$ tech support, I'm sure they know hundreds of different ways to gets BSODs
That vulnerability only exists in Windows 95 and 98. It doesn't exist in NT4, or 2000. I assume that it is fixed in Windows ME, as Windows ME was still being developed when the vulnerability was fixed for the 9x platform.
  4. Re:But... on Pushing Microwaves Faster Than Light · · Score: 1
If a massive particle is created with a speed above that of light, it would be unable to travel slower than a photon. These are called tachyons. However, there is no experimental evidence of these particles. Some people are still looking, but most theorists agree they don't exist.
Tachyons can only travel faster than the speed of light because they have negative mass. In addition to this they travel always greater to but never equal to the speed of light and travel backwards through time. This is the reason they're theoretical. So no, you can't create a massive particle with a speed faster than light, because that which travels faster than light can only have negative mass.
  5. Metallica Perjuring itself? on Metallica Remains Silent · · Score: 1

Metallica delivered the list of users to Napster swearing they had shared Metallica songs under the penalty of perjury. If a user who has appealed to Napster for reinstatement can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that they never actually had or shared Metallica, what kind of penalty would Metallica face? What kind of penalty would there be for perjury, what laws would apply? Surely you can't sue, but if they can try to impeach a president for it, I'm sure Metallica can be stuck for it somehow... Another happily unbanned non-shit listening user.

  6. How they're marketed? on Caltech DNA Sequencer Patent Question · · Score: 1
This is supposed to give federal agencies large discounts on their purchases of sequencers and input into how the devices are marketed
I'm not a lawyer, so I'm wondering what kind of implication this has. How far would the government's pull in how they're marketed reach? Does this mean the government could have the say on whether or not other countries are sold the device (thereby stunting the research in those countries)? I wouldn't put it past Uncle Sam... does anyone know how much say-so the gubbment really has?
