Well stated. Personal responsibility isn't one of the strong points of Katz-ites.

  2. How about keeping your commentary on topic? on Soldier Of Fortune: Must Be 18 To Play · · Score: 1
This is a pathetic editorial totally unrelated to the game Soldier of Fortune or any other technology topic that Slashdot caters to. The very *LEAST* the brainchild responsible for this tripe could have done was play SOF once.

The fact that you're a Vegan and PETAn has no bearing whatsoever on the controversy at hand. Hopefully you'll avoid such weak segways to self promotion in the future.

  4. Welcome to the really real world. on PC Expo = Windows Heaven · · Score: 2

Linux shows are niche shows. Glad to see that someone at Slashdot decided to walk out into the real world. When is the Linux community going to realize that they have a chance at the server community...but the desktop is beyond their grasp. Why? Largely because the end user likes something that is familiar from computer to computer...not a different GUI for every workstation.... Couple that with the elitist attitude that most Linux Hacks display and you've got your reason. Personally I think Linux could be the better operating system, but I still use Win98 & Win2000 on my home machines because every Linux IRC channel that I've asked a simple question in has been filled with some of the biggest asses I've ever met. Embrace your new users instead of trying to trump them and see the difference. PrimalChrome

  5. Blizzard's Marketing strategy..... on Diablo 2 Goes Gold · · Score: 1
Note that DII runs at 640x480. Gameplay or no, the graphics are less than impressive.

Note that Blizzard had a number of excellent titles...once upon a time. In recent years they've only released rehashed engines that they claim are chock full of innovations (read Starcraft & DiabloII). It's sad to see a company coast on the popularity of previous titles.

  6. UF....you're kidding me, right? on Evil Geniuses In A Nutshell · · Score: 1
Combine an egocentric creator....substandard artwork....repitious humor....and a fan base more concerned with the fact that the strip promotes their own techo-agenda than the fact that the strip is third rate on a good day.

And there you have User Friendly.

Demand the same quality from a designer (comic or GUI) as you do from your code and you might be surprised at the postitive reinforcement that will come from the online community as a whole.

  7. Attracting Gamers to the Linux Platform on E3: Linux Still Waiting In The Wings · · Score: 1

The whining oozing out these posts is almost unbelievable. I'd like to throw down on this gripe that there isn't any Linux support in the Gaming Community.... Gaming companies are interested in profits. Quit whining and put your money where your mouth is. Buy every Linux supported game released, even if you're just going to chunk it in the trash the second you get home. Buy it and they will come. Here's a classic example of the problems with many people in the Open Source community....they don't seem to understand that the entertainment industry is driven by profit...and since computer gaming falls into that category... Voila. I have yet to have seen a serious approach to a modern OpenSourced/Freeware FPS engine... The statistics don't show Linux beating Win98 on those games that are available on both platforms. No performance gain...therefore no reason for gamers to switch platforms. Most gamers are on some level technically inclined, or at least like to believe themselves to be. I've had friends want to try our Linux (more to be hip and find out what all the hype is about than really understanding it's roots). Funny, but every single person comes back saying what a bunch of assholes hang out in all the Linux IRC channels....and it's true. You see a person ask a question and half the time the response is an attack or suggestion that the person go back to M$. Until the community learns it has to embrace users as a whole, it can give up on the entertainment arena and thereby lose the desktop market. If you have a Winblows98 platform and can't keep the thing from crashing daily....it sounds like an enduser problem to me. Win98 is my gaming OS of choice...and it crashes rarely, if ever.
