It's not the software that was the problem. A chip failed. The backup system was still working, but they wanted to run the arm with full redundancy so they changed the software as a workaround.
It was already discussed here:

In fact, this service was free if you downloaded the client yourself. If you didn't already had internet access, you had to buy the 10$ CD or ask a friend to download it for you. It was reasonable because it was available in every post office (every village) and every HMV store, I doubt they made money selling the CD.
3web was displaying very different ads. They were animated and with sound. OK, that's not a great discovery, but those animated ads were at the top of your screen permanently.
Many of these ads were in fact television ads... Please don't tell me advertising can't work on the internet: these ads were the same than on tv and they were there all the time, not 2 minutes every 10-15 minutes. These ads were also targeted. These ads were even using the user's name in them.
Ok. This was really really annoying: my sound was turned off. But if this type of ads can't work, nothing would work on the internet.
It's available in canada since 1999:
http://www.bce.ca/en/news/releases/bc/1999/08/05/3 16.html
Since then, it was refined and deployed elsewhere. I saw one today in a convenience store (Couche Tard) in Montréal (cote des neiges). It's a similar terminal, but with a web cam.
It cost 0.30$/min... But it's really useful to check if the important email you were waiting for arrived while you are travelling...
I understand that having a live feed is really important. But for a major event like this wouldn't they record the images and data onboard? Just in case, and to have better quality images?
The major goal of this project was show pictures, or nobody would believe it... especially at East...
To differentiate between connections, the clients need to have different "resources." You probably didn't set one of your instances to have a different resource, so they are trying to fight over the same resource ("JabberIM" by default). Jabber will happily let you use as many connections as you want at once.. as long as each client has unique resources.
Thanks for the info. It's an interesting feature, but it will still cause problems with my network because I share my preferences on every computer. But at least, it will fix it when I forget JabberIM opened at home!
Both of these can be fixed with a quick trip to your Preferences. Simply tell it to not gain focus for new messages.
Thanks! Seems it was fixed in the latest release! It now blinks, so I can see new messages.
Why should they have computers based on electronics and digital logic?
We choosed this way in the last 50 years, based on our knowledge of electricity. Why should they choose the same thing on an other solar system? They would probably choose something completly different, based on completly different knowledge.
I think interface with an other kind of computer would be really difficult.
Journalists are never able to tell the difference between a bacteria or virus (all diseases are caused by virus, according to them), or between a software and a site (see Napster case).
Now, they aren't even able to tell the difference between a site and a newsgroup(sig.kornet.net.adsl)!;-)
Every major distribution has it's own kernel tree - no major distribution has ever shipped one of Linus's kernels.
I don't think we can call this a fork. Every distribution apply patches, but they always patch Linus' tree. When Redhat will release a 2.4.1 kernel, it will be Linus' kernel with a few patches.
A real fork would be an independant work, with a different version numbering and in a few months a product completly different. I don't think it happened, but it may be happening with PPC.
Interesting:
According to their site, this company is "International".
Their France.linuxone.net, Taiwan.linuxone.net and China.linuxone.net web site is the default Apache web page. In fact, both servers are the same machine. I'm surprised those servers run on a LinuxOne distribution.
The other are links to a guy in Latvia.
Hmmm... Me too I'll put a lot of flags on my web page to make professional!
I found a related article here about the launch of the german satellite with some info about blackjack:

Sorry, but nobody made this point before.
And I pressed submit by accident while swithing windows before i was able to develop my point. then I Read new post and saw somebody else saying what I was about to say and I don't want to make redundant post.
Sorry I'm a newbie. Yes, I know I should post this as AC.
With some work, we will see the number of Linux applications increase. If this option becomes popular, many mac users should be interested by Linux app.

The supreme court considers that commercial free speech is not as valuable than personnal free speech for example.
Only e-commerce site are affected by "La charte de la langue française".

Spammers will just move elsewhere.

The interface is simple, it's easy to use. But there is some problems:
Frequent disconnection
Concurrent connection: If I open two JabberIM on different machines, they will battle for the control of the connection!
MSN stay connected when I close JabberIM. Very annoying, friends talk to a wall during hours.
Or the messages pop and hide my work, or I never see them... I can't wait a few seconds before reading the mail like I was used to on ICQ and MSN.
If a new user send me a message while I write to the other, the new window will capture my keystroke. Very annoying when you say : "I love you!".
If those isues would be resolved, JabberIM would perfect for my needs.

What about KDE 2 email client? I need a client with filters and multiple personalities.
