Penalties are established by law for the civilian world, they are established by the UCMJ for the military.

The burden of proof is on the prosecution in both instances, however, that which constitutes proof varies between the two.

Minimum sentencing guidelines aside, the military generally has harsher penalties for crimes than the civilian world. See rape: UCMJ Article 120

Any person subject to this chapter who commits an act of sexual intercourse with a female not his wife, by force and without consent, is guilty of rape and shall be punished by death or such other punishment as a court-martial may direct.

However, when the evidence is taken out of context and misconstrued, it makes it difficult to take it seriously.

The only people that I come across who are anywhere near as accepting are jewish, taoist, buddhist, hindu, nature based religions etc. Generally, I find most intolerance is held by christians and muslims. We do not "worship" science, but we do accept that in many instances, it is fact, not fiction. When proof of something is held before us, we do not stick our fingers in our ears and chant "I can't hear you" repeatedly because it might disagree with my personal belief system.

With regards to movies and the like, the only way to make that happen is to wait for it to hit iTunes, netflix, hulu or on demand (if you want to wait 6+ months to see something) otherwise, you download that shit.
